Hi, I’m Ariel Black, a licensed psychotherapist specializing in trauma-informed inner child work for high-functioning adults. I help people who often appear competent and composed on the outside, but carry invisible emotional wounds from childhood — including experiences of parentification, emotional neglect, or growing up too fast. My approach is psychodynamic, relational, and grounded in curiosity. Together, we’ll gently explore the emotional patterns that were once necessary for survival but now feel limiting, confusing, or exhausting. Many of my clients come to therapy wanting to understand why they still feel disconnected, overly responsible, or emotionally stuck — despite doing “all the right things.” I offer a warm, depth-oriented space where we can work at your pace. Healing doesn’t mean blaming the past — it means making sense of it so you can move forward with more freedom, self-compassion, and clarity in your relationships. I understand that it can be nerve wracking or anxiety provoking to start something new so if you would like to read more about my practice and clinical background, feel free to check out the link to my website below: http://www.arielblackpsychotherapy.com/

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

During our sessions together, I will be utilizing a psychodynamic inner child framework. This style of therapy focuses on uncovering unconscious and recurring patterns that may be preventing individuals from moving forward and experiencing true inner healing. This approach is grounded in the belief that early childhood experiences—particularly those involving unmet emotional needs, trauma, or attachment disruptions—can leave lasting imprints on the psyche. These unresolved issues often manifest in adulthood as depression, anxiety, low self-worth, self-sabotaging behaviors, and difficulties in relationships. Unlike some other forms of therapy, psychodynamic work is a long-term process that requires commitment. It is not intended as a quick fix or a “band-aid” approach to coping. Rather, it is best suited for those who are seeking deep, meaningful, and lasting change—and who understand that true inner healing takes time. Through this form of counseling, my goal is to support clients in achieving long-lasting, lifestyle-level transformation—the kind of growth that may not always be possible through more surface-level approaches. Prior to our initial meeting, I recommend that you take a few minutes to relax and center yourself. It’s common to be nervous before starting something new. Some of my clients write down a tentative list of ideas or mental health goals that they wish to accomplish. However, please note that this doesn’t need to be formally done and mental health goals can change with time. Typically, I utilize our first session to introduce ourselves to each other and assess if we are going to be a good match. I also use this time to verbally review and answer any questions about the informed consent, cancellation policy, office hours, ect.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

My experience as a therapist has enabled me to make positive changes in people’s lives and I am privileged to be a part of that journey. I feel that one of my greatest strengths as a therapist is the ability to sit through and process deep emotional pain with my clients while also allowing them to feel nurtured and understood. I think that a lot of my clients would describe me as warm and maternal, but also having a blunt and corky sense of humor too. In the past I have been told that my artsy and creative mind helps clients discover new and unique ways of thinking. However, in the end I truly hope to provide my clients with a warm and welcoming space to be themselves.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

Most of the clients on my caseload are highly motivated individuals that strive to prioritize their mental health. They aren’t looking for a quick fix and understand that true inner healing is a process that takes time. In fact, I do my best work with high functioning clients that have underline symptoms of depression, trauma, PTSD, grief/loss, anxiety, ect. Meaning that they can still go to work, attend school, engage with friends/loved ones, or still find the means to follow through with day to day activities. However, these individuals still find themselves struggling to find a deeper meaning to life or experiencing mental road blocks with getting over the past and moving forward. Below is a list of issues/topics that I specialize in: ▪️Adults with previous childhood trauma ▪️Anxiety/panic ▪️PTSD ▪️Sexual Trauma ▪️Relational conflict ▪️Low self esteem ▪️Teens/adolescents/early 20’s ▪️Work stress related to nurses, doctors, counselors, and other medical professionals ▪️Personal and emotional growth for inspiring artists ▪️LGBTQ+ related issues ▪️Substance abuse ▪️Depression ▪️Grief/Loss

My treatment methods

Psychodynamic

Psychodynamic therapy is a form of in-depth talk counseling. It originated from the of study of psychoanalysis- which focuses on helping clients understand the subconscious roots behind their emotional suffering. It is intended to provide clients with long-term holistic healing by helping them understand how previous relationships or life events have subconsciously impacted their current way of thinking or behavior patterns. This style of counseling highly emphasizes the importance of having a trusting and secure connection between the therapeutic relationship. This is primarily due to the fact that a lot of time and energy is spent trying to heal from deep rooted childhood wounds and previous trauma. Below are Some of the Key Principles Psychodynamic Therapy Focuses On: ▪️Understanding how life experience shapes one’s personality and how he/she perceives situations. ▪️Understanding how unconscious motivations affect behavior and decision making. ▪️Understanding how past experiences affect the present. ▪️Develop insight and understanding in order to help individuals with psychological issues. ▪️Help clients expand their range of choices and improve interpersonal personal relationships in order to heal/grow. ▪️Allow clients to free themselves from the past in order to live a better future.
