Joanna Bosque
Welcome! I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and I have been practicing for over a decade. I specialize in working with individuals who struggle with anxiety, depression, eating disorders, trauma, cultural identity, relationship issues and life transitions. My therapeutic style is eclectic, with an emphasis on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and mindfulness. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and use it to help clients heal from trauma and emotional distress. I am bilingual in English and Cantonese and sensitive to multicultural issues and the ways culture shapes each person’s experiences and healing. I offer teletherapy to adults throughout California. My availability for sessions is 9am to 3pm Monday- Thursday.
First session
I start off our first session with brief introductions, then hearing your story and understanding your needs. My approach is based on understanding that each client is unique and will receive the most benefit from treatment that is tailored to their needs. Together, we will discuss what works best for you and set realistic and attainable goals.
Strengths
My empathetic nature, authenticity, and humor allow me to connect with clients of various cultural backgrounds. My clients often express feeling heard, seen and safe in sessions.
Ideal clients
I enjoy working with clients who are motivated and curious about gaining a deeper understanding of themselves, want to learn how their behaviors are serving them, and receptive to challenging ineffective patterns that could lead to change. I work especially well with BIPOC clients who experienced cultural or identity challenges, adverse events/trauma and eating disorders.
Treatment methods
Daialectical Behavior (DBT)
I assist clients with managing intense emotions, such as anxiety and depression. I help clients with learning distraction skills, building distress tolerance skills and mindfulness techniques.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use CBT to aid clients to better identify their emotions, thoughts and behaviors. I help clients with identifying and challenging ineffective urges and behavioral patterns that no longer serve them.
EMDR
I utilize EMDR to help clients reprocess trauma and/or adverse events.
