I am licensed in Georgia. I have experience in helping clients with stress and anxiety, family conflicts, trauma and abuse, motivation, self esteem, and confidence. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs. I create a safe space, free of judgement and bias, for you to share your story and connection you to resources to increase the chances of clients reaching their goals.
During the first session, clients will be able to provide their demographic information as well as provide the reason that brought them to therapy. I will walk the client through the process of therapy and what to expect, along with gaining an understanding of their personal expectations. I then provide the opportunity for client's to ask questions to make sure that I am a good fit for them. We then conclude with expectations moving forward and provide homework or techniques that can be applied when needed.
I believe my greatest strengths as a therapist are empathy, attention to detail, especially in non-verbal body language, and experience in working with people from all walks of life, traditions, and belief systems. This has allowed me to connect with clients on a deeper level.
Joanna Fleming offers therapy covered by Medicaid - Peach State Health Plan and Peach State Health Plan (Managed Medicaid) in Georgia.
I have bee using Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Emotionally Focused Trauma Therapy (EFTT) for the past 5 years in working with victims. When an individual experiences trauma, there is a disconnect between thoughts and feeling. Reconnecting those will allow clients the opportunity to explore how the trauma impacted them and begin the healing process by changing the narrative.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a widely used treatment method that allows clients to challenge their thought process and find alternative thinking as well as exploring possible self-sabotaging behaviors that is blocking them from reaching their goals.
Throughout the therapeutic process, clients benefit from the use of mindfulness techniques which include healthy coping skills, relaxation techniques, and opportunities to gain self-awareness and an inner calm. This is also used to provide great relief to those experiencing anxiety as the techniques reduces physical stress such as lower the heart rate and regulating breathing.
Leading group therapy and support groups for the past 6 years, clients have had the opportunity to connect with other who may have similar experiences. This allows them to normalize what they are feeling as well as seeing additional perspectives and healing processes.
In using Trauma-Focused CBT, clients are able to explore what are real or perceived threats. Challenging this type of thought process allows clients to gain a better understanding of the impact of trauma. The more client explore the event, the less power and control it has over them.
