Raina Norris
I’m a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with over 15 years of nursing experience, providing compassionate, evidence-based care to adults and older adolescents. I support individuals facing anxiety, depression, stress, burnout, trauma-related symptoms, and challenges with focus or emotional balance. Are you feeling overwhelmed, emotionally drained, or struggling to keep up with daily demands? Burnout can affect every part of your life—but you don’t have to navigate it alone. I offer a collaborative, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where you can feel heard, understood, and empowered.
I focus on combining evidence-based care with practical strategies and, when appropriate, medication management to help clients feel more balanced, emotionally supported, and empowered in their daily lives.
My approach is personalized to your unique needs and may include thoughtful medication management and therapeutic support. Together, we’ll work toward restoring balance, improving your well-being, and helping you feel more like yourself again. I’m here to help you take that next step.
First session
During our first session, we’ll take time to discuss what brings you to treatment, your current symptoms, personal history, stressors, and goals for care. My goal is to create a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where you feel comfortable being open and heard. Together, we’ll explore your concerns, discuss treatment options, and begin developing a personalized plan that may include coping strategies, lifestyle recommendations, and medication management when appropriate. I also encourage questions throughout the process so we can work collaboratively toward your mental wellness goals.
Strengths
One of my greatest strengths is my ability to create a warm, supportive, and judgment-free environment where clients feel genuinely heard and understood. I take a collaborative and personalized approach to treatment, recognizing that each person’s experiences and needs are unique. I focus on combining evidence-based care with practical strategies and, when appropriate, medication management to help clients feel more balanced, emotionally supported, and empowered in their daily lives. Clients often appreciate my compassionate approach, active listening, and ability to help them feel comfortable discussing difficult concerns.
Ideal clients
I enjoy working with adults and older adolescents who may be struggling with anxiety, depression, stress, burnout, trauma-related distress, low self-esteem, or difficulty managing life’s many responsibilities. Many of my clients feel overwhelmed trying to balance work, relationships, family, and personal expectations while silently carrying emotional exhaustion or self-criticism. I strive to provide a compassionate, collaborative, and nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard and supported. Through both my clinical experience and personal understanding of life’s pressures, I’m able to relate to many of the challenges my clients face. My approach combines evidence-based treatment, practical coping strategies, and medication management when appropriate, with the goal of helping clients build emotional balance, confidence, resilience, and improved overall well-being.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) as a core approach in my PMHNP practice to help clients identify and challenge unhelpful thoughts, change unhelpful behaviors, and build practical coping skills; sessions focus on cognitive restructuring, behavioral activation, and Socratic questioning, include brief homework like thought records and activity scheduling, and use regular review of skills and progress to guide treatment and measure outcomes.
Supportive
I use supportive therapy to create a safe, empathic, and nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard and validated while working toward their goals. In sessions I prioritize active listening, normalization, and encouragement, help patients strengthen existing coping skills, provide problem-solving guidance, and offer practical resources and psychoeducation as needed. I use supportive interventions during medication-management and brief visits to stabilize mood, reduce distress, reinforce progress, and build therapeutic alliance, while coordinating referrals for more intensive psychotherapy when patients need additional specialty care.
Compassion-Focused
I use Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) to help clients develop self-compassion, reduce self-criticism, and soothe threat-driven emotions; sessions emphasize compassionate mind training through psychoeducation, compassionate-self imagery and letter-writing, compassionate self-talk, and short practices like soothing rhythm breathing and grounding. I introduce CFT practices progressively based on patient readiness, assign brief homework to reinforce new patterns, review results in follow-ups, and integrate CFT with other evidence-based interventions or referrals when additional support is needed.
