New to Grow
I have been working for over 30 years with individuals of all ages and backgrounds who are differently abled and on the autism spectrum. I have a strong behavioral background and work with people who use alcohol and drugs to escape the stressors of daily life. I take a holistic and humanist approach, stressing the importance of authentic connection. My practice primarily focuses on building ties between communities, families, and individuals that provide ongoing emotional support.
Session focus is on building and maintaining therapeutic trust so we can work together on communication and other barriers between you and loved ones/professional/personal success. I will do my best to connect with authenticity and to foster an alliance that is assuring and provides enough momentum to encourage your participation and continued growth. I work with each person individually, and if I assess that homework is a motivator for your growth and participation, I will regularly assign work between sessions for discussion during your next scheduled session.
I will always strive to meet your where you are when in session. Sometimes, we need a push and a challenge. Sometimes, we need to have someone hold space for us and to help us feel especially supported and heard. The rapport we will build together will ensure we are able to meet in a space that both welcoming and safe for you.
I best serve people who want to be there with me in session. While I am perfectly capable of conversation and modeling progress/encouragement of progress, I am not the person in therapy... You are!! Sometimes, it may feel like there just aren't any 'issues" to approach-it is important that you recognize that some of the most crucial progress may be made during times of stability because you actually have the mental capacity to participate more fully in the work we are doing.
Other specialties
I identify as
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Your behavior, your environment, how you interact with other people, your personal thoughts and feelings--all are working in tandem as the "reasons" for the direction of your life. We talk over all of it and decide what is and is not working for you in terms of the direction you would like your life to take.
Interpersonal
How we interact with and feel about our closest relationships and interactions really says a lot about who we are and what we believe about ourselves and others to be true. Sometimes this realization is enough to move briskly toward happiness in our everyday interactions, personally and professionally.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
Meeting you in a safe and welcoming way is so important, and helping you to feel supported and accepted is a specialty of mine.
