Hello, I am a psychotherapist, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has 30+ years of experience. with children, families, adults, and veterans. Many of my clients have been challenged with OCD, Anxiety , Depression, Grief, Chronic Illness and Bipolar Disorder. In addition I have worked with children, teens and adults in the autism spectrum (mainly high functioning/previous Asperger's disorder). I have a psychosocial perspective on what my clients are experiencing, I see the benefits and progress when clients develop a new skill set that can be helpful in their lives and decrease pain and fear. I incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy; so that the client can learn to take charge of their persistent negative thoughts and reframe their negative perspective taking by substituting a healthier understanding of their life. I implement a strong Cognitive Therapy Approach because research has shown the benefits and success of "CBT" as a framework for treatment planing in threading. I use worksheets, supportive therapy, talking therapy, and book reviews for you to better understand your journey are helpful avenues in counseling. Therapy can be an intimidating thought if you have never experienced and received the benefits of developing skills to work through the issues that are bringing you to therapy. In working together we can find the tools that are helpful to you for successful therapy.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session I will ask about what is bringing you to therapy, and who are significant in your life presently. Together we will explore the specific challenges you are facing. Together we will create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow up sessions.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My strength comes from years of experience whereby I strive to understand the whole person. We then explore avenues to increase your emotional understanding and implement tools for change.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use CBT because research has shown the modality is very successful with anxiety and depression. CBT in my own practice has been useful with adolescent patients diagnosed with ADHD, Spectrum Disorders and trauma. Environmental stressors can make life very confusing for teens as well as their parents. In rearranging patterns that are not working for families, CBT can set new patterns of behavior and goals that create a more beneficial outcome.

Culturally Sensitive Therapy

I have had a diverse patient population for over 25 years and I believe it is important to be sensitive and mindful of cultural traditions, beliefs, and behavioral norms. To be sensitive to how our culture defines us and the deep roots of our personal values and sense of self is critical to therapy.

Faith based therapy

Integrating spirituality and mental health is an important factor in my therapeutic approach as often clients and their emotional struggles have deep roots connected to their faith. I have patients who struggle with making decisions regarding their marriage, intimate relationships and friendships and want to incorporate decision making within the context of their faith. My understanding of these dynamics integrated with my cognitive and/or psychodynamic approach has been a successful approach for clients.

Psychodynamic

Oftentimes it is necessary for patients to explore their past in order to address the current emotional struggles. For many of my older patients who are now experiencing depression and are unable to function on a daily basis, it is helpful to incorporate beliefs, history, and traditions of their early family system.
