Darren Burgin
Hi, I’m a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, and I believe mental health care works best when you feel comfortable, respected, and truly listened to. I help adults navigate anxiety, depression, stress, insomnia, mood disorders, and other emotional challenges through thoughtful medication management and supportive care. My style is down-to-earth, humorous, and collaborative. I take time to listen, understand your goals, and create a treatment plan tailored to your needs – not a one-size-fits-all approach. I also value using the least medication necessary while focusing on meaningful, lasting improvement.
I’m thoughtful with medication use, focusing on the least medication necessary while aiming for meaningful, lasting improvement.
My goal is to help you feel better, function better, and move forward with confidence. *** Please note - if you reside in Idaho, Montana, or Washington I do not prescribe any controlled medications (for example, stimulants or benzodiazepines). Also, if you are an Ohio resident I am unable to prescribe stimulant medications to treat ADD/ADHD, as Ohio law restricts prescribing of these medications based on practice location. ***
First session
Your first session with me is a chance for us to get to know each other and begin building a plan for your care. We’ll talk about what brought you in, your current symptoms, relevant medical and mental health history, past treatment experiences, and the goals you’d like to achieve. I’ll ask thoughtful questions, listen carefully, and make sure you feel heard and respected throughout the process. By the end of the session, we’ll discuss next steps and create an initial treatment plan that feels practical, personalized, and supportive.
Strengths
My greatest strengths are listening carefully, understanding the full picture, and creating practical treatment plans that truly fit the individual. I take a collaborative, down-to-earth approach that helps clients feel comfortable, respected, and involved in their care. I’m thoughtful with medication use, focusing on the least medication necessary while aiming for meaningful, lasting improvement. Clients often value that I combine clinical expertise with genuine compassion, humor, and clear guidance they can trust.
Ideal clients
I’m best positioned to work with adults who are motivated to feel better and ready to take an active role in their treatment. Many of the people I help are dealing with anxiety, depression, stress, insomnia, attention concerns, or feeling overwhelmed by life’s demands. They may be looking for clear guidance, thoughtful medication management, and a provider who truly listens. I work especially well with clients who value a practical, collaborative approach and want lasting progress—not just a quick fix. *** Please note, due to Ohio practice restrictions on Schedule II medications I am unable to prescribe stimulant medications for the treatment of ADD/ADHD via a telehealth platform .
Treatment methods
Supportive
While my practice is primarily focused on thoughtful medication management, I also value the role mindfulness and supportive therapy can play in improving emotional wellness. I help patients better manage anxiety, stress, racing thoughts, and emotional reactivity through supportive listening and feedback. This can complement medication treatment by building greater self-awareness, resilience, and day-to-day coping skills.
