New to Grow
Are things in your life just feeling slightly off? Your relationships aren't feeling as fulfilling or as close as they used to feel? Are you feeling like there is so much going on that you feel overwhelmed? I understand how that can weigh you down and hold you back. You have so much to process and deal with that it is taking a toll on your work and your personal relationships. Resilience counseling can provide you with a path through all of this and I look forward to showing you this path. My approach is to work collaboratively with you to empower and enhance your life experiences. I use a strengths-based approach informed by a wellness perspective. This means my goal is to search for your strengths and use those to help you cope with all that you are dealing with in your life. In this search we will find those solutions and tools you have used to handle situations and enhance them to work for you now when things feel so different and hard to deal with. We will figure out what influences in your life have had impact on who you are today and look at ways to increase those beneficial influences and lessen those negative ones that have had power over you unnecessarily. We will look to give you the power back to control your own life circumstances. These efforts will build your inner resilience and your ability to recover more quickly from similar difficulties moving forward. I look forward to sharing my expertise to aid in your reaching your desired potential.
My specialty is resilience counseling and working with life transitions. I’m trained in a variety of modalities and have concentrated my practice with individuals and couples. Our first session will be about getting to know each other and assuring this is a good fit for you. In addition to understanding the therapy process, we will begin to look at what goals you have for yourself and how we can work together to attain those goals.
I am an eternal learner. This means that although I have been in this field for many years, I continue to learn and grow and make sure I offer my clients the most effective interventions. I have trained new clinicians for the last 20 years allowing me to stay up to date and informed. As the current President of the International Association for Resilience and Trauma Counseling (IARTC), I am involved in the American Counseling Association efforts and network with the leaders in our field.
I work with a variety of clients throughout the developmental lifespan. Most of my clients are dealing with life transitions and relationship issues and are looking to develop their inner resilience. I have a specialization in couples and families which provides me with skills as well as expertise in relationships and the use of interpersonal processes. You are my ideal client if you want a therapist who works collaboratively, is strength-based, and believes in a culture of care.
Positive Psychology
My work involves a strength-based approach focused on resilience-building and self-compassion enhancement for clients. I have not only used this approach in therapy but have done research and presentations on these interventions and ideas.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
In addition to working from a Positive Psychology perspective, my practice is focused on understanding functional beliefs and changing maladaptive behaviors that do not serve my clients.
