Erica Rentz

LPC (she/her)28 years of experience

I am a multicultural Licensed Professional Counselor who provides therapy in English, Portuguese, and Spanish. My international experience has shaped my deep appreciation for diverse cultures, identities, and life experiences. I bring warmth, compassion, openness, and genuine care to my work, creating a welcoming space where clients feel understood and supported as they navigate trauma, relationships, life transitions, and personal growth.

First session

Your first session is a time for us to connect and for me to understand you beyond your symptoms. We’ll explore what brings you to therapy, your concerns, experiences, relationships, culture, and what you hope to change. My approach is warm, compassionate, and collaborative. There is no pressure to share more than you are ready for—we will move at a pace that feels comfortable and meaningful to you.

Strengths

One of my greatest strengths is my creativity and ability to see each client as a truly unique individual. I am highly perceptive and often recognize emotional patterns, strengths, and underlying needs quickly. With extensive training across multiple therapeutic approaches, I bring a large and flexible toolbox to each session. Rather than using the same method with everyone, I creatively integrate different techniques to meet you where you are. I am open-minded, intuitive, compassionate, and never afraid to think outside the box to help you discover what works best for you.

Ideal clients

I work especially well with young adults and adults from all backgrounds who are ready to understand themselves more deeply and heal from painful experiences. My specialty is developmental trauma, attachment injuries, and trauma-related concerns. I also support clients navigating cultural transitions, discrimination, relationship challenges, and major life changes. I have deep compassion for human pain and suffering. Regardless of your race, culture, nationality, gender identity, sexual orientation, or life story, you are welcome in my space and will be treated with respect, compassion, and acceptance.

Treatment methods

Somatic

My primary approach is somatic and trauma-focused, although I do not believe trauma treatment is one-size-fits-all. Somatic work recognizes that traumatic experiences can affect not only thoughts and emotions, but also the nervous system and the way distress is experienced in the body. I help clients develop greater awareness of physical sensations, emotional responses, triggers, and patterns of activation, while building skills for grounding, regulation, and a greater sense of safety. Because every client and every trauma history is unique, I use somatic methods within a broader integrative approach. Depending on the client’s needs and readiness, I may incorporate EMDR, mindfulness, CBT, attachment-focused interventions, and other trauma-informed techniques. Rather than fitting the client into a particular method, I draw from multiple evidence-based approaches to support regulation, processing, insight, and healing. My goal is to work with the whole person—mind, body, emotions, relationships, and lived experience—while adapting treatment to what is most helpful for each individual.
