Hello! I am Ebony Telfer, a dedicated and compassionate Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC). My practice is centered on promoting mental wellness and enhancing patient outcomes through evidence-based practices. I am committed to providing personalized, holistic care that addresses the unique needs of every individual. The goal is not only symptom relief but also the promotion of long-term mental well-being, resilience, and independence. My dedication to evidence-based practices guarantees that my patients receive the highest standard of care and ensures that each patient understands their treatment plan.

First session

During your first session, we’ll take time to get to know each other in a safe and mutually respectful environment where you can expect a comprehensive psychiatric assessment to evaluate your unique needs and prioritize your care. We will work together to establish individualized goals and develop a treatment plan that may include evidence-based psychotherapy, lifestyle modifications, and/or medication management. My focus is on empowering you through education about your diagnosis and coping strategies while ensuring a stable, supportive atmosphere for your recovery.

Strengths

I believe in a collaborative and holistic approach to mental health. I work closely with each client to develop individualized treatment plans that align with their specific needs, preferences, and goals of care. I combine supportive therapy with evidence-based strategies and, when appropriate, medication management to help you feel balanced, understood, and empowered in your mental health journey.

Ideal clients

I am in the greatest position as a PMHNP to assist those who are looking for evidence-based, considerate, and compassionate mental health treatment. In order to improve their emotional well-being and general functioning, I work with clients who may be dealing with issues including depression, anxiety, trauma, stress, mood disorders, and substance use. Many of the clients I deal with are driven to learn more about their mental health, create better coping mechanisms, and restore equilibrium in their personal and professional life. I regularly assist clients who are dealing with mental health issues while juggling the responsibilities of job, education, and family, feeling overburdened, burned out, or having trouble adjusting to life changes. Additionally, those who value a comprehensive, culturally sensitive approach to care that takes into account both pharmaceutical management and therapy tactics are a good fit for my practice. While creating useful tools to enhance resilience and long-term mental wellbeing, I work with clients who are willing to explore the relationship between their beliefs, actions, emotions, and life events. In the end, I want to work with clients who are looking for a supportive partnership in their care, where we can create a customized plan to assist them attain stability, clarity, and a significant improvement in their quality of life. Your safety and wellbeing ate my top priority.

Treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I utilize an integrative psychiatric approach that incorporates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) principles alongside pharmacologic management to help patients recognize how thoughts, emotions, and behaviors interact. My practice focuses on identifying maladaptive cognitive distortions—such as catastrophizing and overgeneralization—and equipping patients with practical, evidence-based coping strategies for conditions like Major Depressive Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. In practice, I actively support patient autonomy and long-term resilience by: Psychoeducation: Teaching the cognitive model to illustrate how thoughts drive emotional and behavioral responses. Cognitive Restructuring: Helping patients identify, challenge, and reframe negative automatic thoughts and distortions. Behavioral Interventions: Utilizing behavioral activation, problem-solving skills, and structured out-of-session exercises (e.g., thought records). Self-Management: Developing actionable tools for stress management, emotional regulation, and relapse prevention to empower independent, daily coping.

Motivational Interviewing

I utilize an integrative psychiatric approach that incorporates Motivational Interviewing (MI) principles alongside pharmacologic management to resolve ambivalence and strengthen a patient's own motivation for change. My practice focuses on exploring internal motivators and equipping individuals with evidence-based behavioral strategies to manage conditions like Major Depressive Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. In clinical practice, I support patient autonomy by using reflective listening to express empathy and by helping patients identify discrepancies between their current behaviors and personal goals. Rather than forcing progress, I collaborate with patients to roll with resistance, reinforcing their self-efficacy and empowering them with practical tools to achieve long-term resilience and self-management.

Trauma-Informed Care

I utilize an integrative psychiatric approach that incorporates Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) principles alongside pharmacologic management to create a safe, supportive environment that recognizes the profound impact of trauma on overall wellness. My practice focuses on shifting the clinical lens from 'what is wrong with you' to 'what happened to you,' equipping individuals with evidence-based, healing-centered strategies to manage conditions like Major Depressive Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. In clinical practice, I prioritize patient safety, trustworthiness, and empowerment by collaborating closely with individuals to rebuild a sense of control over their care. Rather than focusing solely on symptom reduction, I integrate a deep understanding of neurobiology and coping mechanisms into treatment, validating patients' lived experiences and reinforcing their inherent self-efficacy to promote long-term resilience and recovery.
