I've been a licensed psychotherapist for 13 years, and I love this work. I am grateful to be able to assist people in becoming their best selves and recreating their lives. Though a client may share a diagnosis with millions, each person has their own unique source and very individual path to wellness. It's an honor to assist clients on this journey. I focus on therapies that will help you gain knowledge and agency within your self. I offer in person counseling in the East Bay area of San Francisco, as well as therapy while walking.
In our first session, we will talk about how you would like to change and what your hopes are for therapy and your life. We will go through some basic history and state of affairs. I will give you time to ask questions and for us to get to know each other. If in person, we will share cups of tea if you would like, If choosing walking therapy, we will spend the first session indoors but will introduce you to the forest paths that we will take in the future.
I believe that everyone is doing the best they can, but that everyone has the power to change. I am not judgmental, and have worked with people with very diverse backgrounds and challenging circumstances. I have had 13 years to collect methods, theories and tools to help design a journey to wellness. I am always amazed at the change that can happen, sometimes in a relatively short span of time, sometimes longer. My goal is to help people be in compassionate control of their own inner world so that they can be more at peace and effective in the outer world.
Though I have mastered trauma techniques that can help anyone, I have spent over a decade working with people who have served in the military, and nearly a decade working with incarcerated people. Believe me, nothing can surprise me. I understand ADHD and how differently mental and behavioral challenges affect us and can be supported.
Internal Family Systems has created the deepest changes with my clients. Its a model that helps clients understand and guide their own parts, so that one day they may not need a therapist.
Since EMDR was discovered, and more recently it's cousin the Flash Technique, there is no reason anyone should still be triggered by specific traumatic incidents. EMDR is amazingly effective for single incident traumas, and Flash is more flexible for many kinds of traumas and disturbances. It can be used on its own and I also blend it into IFS work.
