About me

My name is Linzy Minnich-Thompson. I identify as nonbinary, preferring they/them pronouns, although she/her pronouns are also accepted. I earned a Master of Science in Social Work from Salisbury University in 2022. I am Dedicated to fostering inclusive and personalized safe spaces, encouraging clients to explore their mental health challenges openly. With experience in supporting individuals across all age groups. I am committed to delivering comprehensive and compassionate mental health care. I have a strong love for creativity in therapeutic interventions, utilizing art and hands-on techniques to facilitate engagement and personal understanding of the therapeutic process.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Our first session is not necessarily my best impression, simply due to the fact I need to ask A LOT of questions to get to know you. I know that it can be a bit overwhelming when you have a stranger asking you personal questions but I always begin each intake with a brief insight of myself! With time you will see my personable approach to therapy, gaining an understanding of my promise to be genuine and prioritize your mental health treatment

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

My creativity truly is my best asset, I have created various therapy interventions to benefit my clients. I have several board games I created myself, aimed towards reoccurring stressors with clients. Clients enjoyed them so much, many clients and I created games specifically for their struggles. I also connect art to my therapeutic process, ranging in coloring, paper crafts, clay, beads, painting, and other tangible art supplies. Each having some connection to the clients individual needs, while also creating a tangible tool to utilize outside of session, or a tangible way of expressing their emotion.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

Myself having a unique approach to therapy, I have always encouraged clients to lean into the unfamiliar silly feeling experienced in session. Telling clients, "The best therapy interventions are the silliest!" With that being said, my ideal client could truly be anyone. I have found myself surprised by the vastness of clients I have connected with enjoying each connection.

My treatment methods

EMDR

EMDR, or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, is a therapeutic approach that I deeply value. While it is widely recognized for its effectiveness in trauma treatment, its benefits extend far beyond that, offering a customizable experience tailored to meet the unique needs of each client. I enjoy embracing the silly feeling that comes along with EMDR while combining an artistic hands on approach, working towards decreasing levels of distress.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with clients by guiding them to identify and challenge negative thought patterns that contribute to their emotional distress. Together, we explore the connections between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and I teach them therapeutic skills to reframe unhelpful beliefs and develop effective coping strategies.

Family Therapy

I enjoy taking a creative approach, incorporating crafts, games, and hands on interventions to ease families into engaging in therapeutic family sessions. I love seeing my clients enjoy sharing their new knowledge or coping mechanisms with family members, promoting application of interventions within the home and their personal life.

Gender-affirming therapy

As a member of the LGBTQ+ I always prioritize gender-affirming therapy. Tell me your pronouns and/or preferred name, and we will identify your needs from there. I encourage clients to correct me if I ever mistakingly use the wrong pronouns or name.

Person-centered (Rogerian)

My core belief as a therapist is to be person centered. The reason I am a therapist is for my clients, the connections I create, the small moments of accomplishments and the moment you graduate therapy. I am always going to meet my clients where they are at.
