Hello I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor. I have worked in the mental health field for over 20 years. I have been licensed in the state of Ohio for 6 years. I am an active duty Air Force Veteran and served during the Gulf War. I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Maryland at College Park and a Master of Arts degree in Professional Counseling from Argosy University Washington, D.C. campus. While I diagnose and treat most mental health disorders I specialize in grief and bereavement and certified as a grief recovery specialist. I also provide individual counseling to adults who are seeking help with life choices, decision making and personal difficulties.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session expect a brief introduction and an assessment so I may better understand client's needs. The assessment is a series of questions about client's life history and background and why they are seeking therapy. Expect to laugh as my non realistic dream job is to be a comedian as laughter is a natural healer. I explain how I conduct therapy, I explain diagnosis and do my best to answer as many questions as there may be so the client will know what to expect moving forward.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Over my many years in the mental health field, I've learned to put myself in the client's seat as I am also a human being and I can better empathize with their situation(s). I am able to put client's at ease in minutes and allow them to see me as a trusted friend to share in confidentiality. I allow client's to make their own decisions not tell them what to do or not to do. I just provide them with tools to make solid goals and progress. I am a results driven provider who gives honest feedback. I am blunt and to the point without causing further harm. I know my limitations. If I feel I am unable to help a client I will refer them to other providers. I am a continuous student as I stay abreast of the most recent studies and information in the mental health field.

My treatment methods

Eclectic

Treatment method depends upon the person's diagnosis, reason for seeking treatment, and best match for person's needs.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

DBT originally utilized for borderline personality disorders is now used with addiction rehabilitation. I have many years of experience working in both inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation programs. The interventions used within DBT work well for individuals struggling with low self-esteem, relationship issues and forgiveness from past abuse/traumas. Overall it is a great collection of interventions for emotional regulation which is key to other challenges all human beings encounter throughout their life span.
