Susan Eluwa
My name is Susan Eluwa and I am a dual-certified Family Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. My passion for psychiatric care comes from a genuine desire to help people improve their quality of life and achieve emotional wellness. While working as a Family Nurse Practitioner, I recognized that many patients were struggling with mental health challenges that significantly affected their overall health, relationships , and daily functioning. This inspired me to transition to psychiatry, where I could focus on helping individuals and families navigate these challenges and achieve lasting wellness. I enjoy working with both children and adults, with a special interest in supporting children with ADHD, autism, anxiety, emotional dysregulation and other mental health conditions, as well as adults facing anxiety, depression, ADHD, mood disorders, and life stressors. I strive to create a compassionate, non-judgemental environment where patients feel heard, understood, and empowered. My goal is to provide personalized, evidence-based care that helps each person build resilience, reach their full potential, and live a healthier, more fulfilling life. *** At this time, I do not prescribe controlled substances to patients receiving care in New Jersey. Patients requiring controlled medications may be referred to an appropriate provider for evaluation and management. This practice policy is designed to support safe, appropriate, and compliant psychiatric care and may be updated as clinical, regulatory, and practice requirements evolve.*** Please note, I do not treat schizophrenia, schizoaffective or other psychotic disorders, substance abuse disorders, or personality disorders at this time.
First session
Your first session is a comprehensive step toward understanding your mental health needs. You will have a compassionate and dedicated practitioner that will listen to your needs and conduct a thorough psychiatric evaluation while ensuring that you are heard without judgment. I want my patients to be active participants in their care and decision making. This session focuses on gathering the precise clinical information needed to formulate an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan. During the session, I will: 1. Actively listen to your current concerns, symptoms, and the impact they have on your daily life. Your story and experience are essential to this process. 2. Conduct a detailed evaluation about your medical, psychiatric, and social history. This information is crucial for accurately diagnosing your condition and assessing the safety and appropriateness of any potential medication. 3. Discuss a Collaborative Treatment Plan which includes reviewing my initial clinical impressions and, if appropriate, discuss starting a medication regimen or adjusting a current one. We will outline clear goals for monitoring your progress and next steps.
Strengths
What truly stands out about my care is my compassion and dedication. You are going to feel truly heard and supported. I work for you, and my job is to help you live a healthier and more fulfilling life. My approach is providing targeted and effective care using evidence based framework. I conduct comprehensive evaluations to accurately diagnose and manage conditions, ensuring all medication decisions are safe, evidence-based, and specifically tailored to your individual needs and lifestyle. Although my focus is on medication management, I practice active listening to understand the complexities of your life. We will work together as partners to monitor your progress, discuss potential side effects, and make continuous adjustments to optimize your outcome. Medication management is only one piece of the puzzle. I encourage and support the integration of other forms of therapy (which you may pursue elsewhere) to ensure you are receiving comprehensive, holistic care for your mental and emotional well-being. We will also discuss alternative therapies and supplements that may be beneficial to you.
Ideal clients
My ideal clients are those who are seeking medication management as part of their treatment plan. Someone who is ready for a change and actively motivated to engage actively in their treatment plan, including monitoring their symptoms, reporting any side effects, and collaborating closely on medication adjustments. Someone who may be experiencing challenges related to depression, anxiety, ADHD, bipolar disorder, or other mood conditions that require expert pharmacological intervention for stabilization and symptom control. Ideal client is open to or already engaged in psychotherapy with a separate provider and see medication management as a powerful tool to complement their overall holistic care plan.
