New to Grow
Hi, I'm David. I'm a Licensed Independent Social Worker with Supervision Designation (LISW-S), and I believe therapy works best when you can show up as yourself without feeling judged, analyzed, or expected to have everything figured out. My approach is warm, straightforward, and collaborative. I enjoy working with adults who may feel overwhelmed, stuck, anxious, burned out, or simply trying to make sense of where they are in life and where they want to go next. Rather than telling you what you should do, I'll work along side you to better understand what's happening, identify what may be getting in your way, and find practical changes that fit your life. I value authenticity in the therapeutic relationship. You can expect compassion and respect, but also honest conversation, thoughtful questions, and a little humor when appropriate. Therapy doesn't have to feel cold or clinical- it can be a place where you feel understood while also doing meaningful work toward the life you want.
Our first session will be about getting to know each other and beginning to understand what has brought you to therapy. We will talk about what's been going on in your life, what you'd like to be different, and what you hope to get from our work together. You don't need to have everything figured out or know exactly where to begin- that's something we can work through together. I'll ask questions to learn more about you, but I also want the session to feel like a genuine conversation rather than an interview. We will begin to identify your goals and discussing what might be most helpful moving forward. Just as importantly, the first session gives you the opportunity to get a feel for me and and decide if I'm someone you feel comfortable working with. My goal is for you to leave our first meeting feeling heard, respected, and with a clearer sense of where we can go from here.
One of my greatest strengths as a therapist is my ability to listen closely and look beyond the surface of what someone is experiencing. I'm naturally curious about people and want to understand not only what is happening, but why it makes sense in the context of their life, experiences, and circumstances. I bring warmth and empathy to sessions, but I also believe therapy should be useful. I enjoy helping clients take situations that feel complicated or overwhelming and break them down into something more understandable and manageable. Together, we can recognize patterns , consider different perspectives, build on your existing strengths, and identify practical steps toward meaningful change. I also bring authenticity to the therapeutic relationship. I am not interested in being a distant or overly clinical therapist. I'll meet you with compassion, honesty, curiosity, and humor when appropriate. I believe some of the most meaningful therapeutic work happens when people feel genuinely understood and comfortable enough to be themselves. Ultimately, my goal isn't to tell you how to live your life. It's to help you understand yourself more clearly, recognize possibilities you may not have considered, and support you as you decide what change looks like for you.
My ideal client is an adult who is ready to better understand themselves and make meaningful changes in their life, even if they aren't quite sure yet what those changes should look like. You may be feeling anxious, overwhelmed, burned out, stuck in familiar patterns, or simply questioning whether the life you are living still works for you. I especially enjoy working with people who tend to think deeply, feel things strongly, or have spent a lot of time trying to meet the expectations of others. You may be navigating a major life transition, struggling with self-doubt, trying to establish healthier boundaries, or wanting to understand why certain thoughts, emotions or patterns keep showing up. You don't need to come to therapy with perfectly designed goals. Maybe you want to feel less overwhelmed, become more confident in your decisions, or simply understand yourself on a deeper level. We can figure out the specifics together. What matters the most to me is that you are willing to be curious about yourself and open to exploring what might help. You don't have to become a completely different person. Sometimes the goal is learning how to build a life that works better for the person you already are
I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients better understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions and behaviors. Together, we will explore patterns in the way you think and respond to situations and consider whether those patterns are helping or making life more difficult. Rather than simply telling you to "think positively," CBT gives us practical tools for examining thoughts more closely, challenging unhelpful beliefs, and developing different ways of responding to difficult situations. We may also identify behaviors that keep you feeling stuck and work towards small, realistic changes that support your goals. I use CBT collaboratively and adapt it to the individual rather than treating it as a one-size-fits-all formula. My goal is to help develop skills you can use outside of our sessions so that, over time, you feel more confident in recognizing patterns, responding to challenges, and making choices that work better for you.
