I am a general clinical psychologist and see most of my clients utilizing telehealth via Zoom, Doxy or phone. I treat clients who experience anxiety, depression and other life struggles. I’m also a relationship expert and passionate about saving marriages. I specialize in helping busy, hard-working couples or individuals improve their lives in an empathic and safe environment. I use my Christian Faith, years of experience and an evidence-based approach to helping clients navigate through difficult seasons of life. I provide tools and resources so that they can benefit and experience positive results. In addition to couples therapy, I enjoy working with Stepfamilies. I did my research and dissertation on stepfamilies and am a mom and stepmom to 7 children. I am devoted to, when it's possible, preventing the heartache of divorce. But I also work hard with families of divorce to reduce the damage and destruction that can result from high conflict. I enjoy working with special forces and military families. I offer special discounts to military service members, law enforcement, firefighters and their families as they hold a special place in my heart and it is my privilege to help our nation's greatest heroes.
I embrace the philosophy of resiliency and take a collaborative and strength-based approach to motivate change. I also utilize an evidence-based approach such as Gottman Method for couples and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for those who suffer from mood disorders. In session, I help with the development of important skills such as effective communication, conflict resolution, stress reduction, management of difficult emotions/feelings, practical goal-setting and improved problem solving.
The treatment methods I utilize vary. For couples, I am trained (levels 1, 2 & 3) in the Gottman Method and utilize Gottman resources. I also do in-person couples weekend intensives through www.couplestherapyinc.com. For individuals, I use an eclectic approach depending on the specific needs of a client. For example, cognitive behavioral therapy for those who suffer from mood disorders. I am also trained in trauma therapy such as EMDR. I have special training and a research background in blended families. I also have experience working with the military and their families.
My greatest strength is my Christian faith and the belief that every person I see is of great value and importance and that my job is to do my best to help them in the way I'd want to be helped if I were in their shoes. Other strengths are: how much I love what I do and continue to learn and grow in this field; being curious and often inspired by my clients' stories, and feeling privileged at getting the chance to help someone; life experience of raising a blended family of 7 kids, being married for over 25 years, growing up in the military, traveling abroad and being exposed to many different cultures. Last but not least, I have over 20 years of experience as a clinical psychologist.
