Nicole Sappia-Parmigiani
Hi, my name is Nicole, and I have been working as a therapist for the past three years, specializing in anxiety, depression, and trauma. My therapeutic approach is centered on the belief that the relationship between therapist and client is one of the most important parts of the healing process. While I value clinical knowledge and evidence-based interventions and certainly utilize this in session, I believe therapy should be about more than following a textbook. I strive to create a space where clients feel comfortable being themselves, without judgment or expectations. I place a strong emphasis on building trust, fostering authenticity, and developing a genuine connection so that clients feel safe enough to explore their experiences, work through difficult emotions, and make meaningful changes. My goal is to meet each person where they are, honor their individual experiences, and support them in their journey toward healing, growth, and self-discovery.
First session
After the first session, I hope to have a better understanding of what brought the client to therapy, their current challenges, and what they hope to accomplish through treatment. Most importantly, I want the client to leave feeling comfortable, welcomed, heard, and supported, with a sense of warmth and safety as we begin building a trusting therapeutic relationship.
Strengths
My strength is my strong belief that everyone has strengths and the capacity for growth, even when they struggle to recognize it themselves. My approach focuses on building upon those strengths in a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where clients feel heard, valued, and understood. I prioritize trust, authenticity, and the therapeutic relationship, while also recognizing that growth sometimes means sitting with uncomfortable feelings, exploring difficult truths, and using gentle confrontation to encourage self-reflection and meaningful change. My goal is to help clients recognize their resilience, build confidence, and navigate life’s challenges at their own pace.
Ideal clients
My ideal client is someone navigating anxiety, depression, and also the lasting effects of trauma who is open to self-exploration, personal growth, and meaningful change. They are willing to identify personal goals, actively engage in therapy, and practice skills both in and outside of sessions to build self-awareness, develop healthier coping strategies, and create lasting positive changes in their everyday lives.
Treatment methods
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
I incorporate ACT to help clients recognize that their thoughts do not define them. Through mindfulness and cognitive defusion, I help clients create space between themselves and their thoughts, allowing them to respond with greater awareness and intention rather than feeling controlled by them.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I incorporate CBT to help clients identify and challenge unhelpful thought patterns by examining the evidence behind their thoughts and exploring more balanced, realistic possibilities. My goal is to help clients shift their perspective, reduce negative thinking, and develop healthier ways of interpreting and responding to life's challenges.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
I incorporate DBT to help clients build practical skills for managing intense emotions, tolerating distress, and navigating interpersonal relationships. I focus on helping clients develop emotional regulation, mindfulness, and healthier coping strategies so they can respond to challenging situations with greater awareness and confidence.
Motivational Interviewing
I incorporate Motivational Interviewing to help clients explore their own motivations for change, identify personal strengths, and work through ambivalence. I use a collaborative, nonjudgmental approach to empower clients to recognize their ability to make meaningful changes and take steps toward their goals.
Psychodynamic
I incorporate psychodynamic approaches to help clients explore how past experiences, childhood dynamics, and relationship patterns may influence their current thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.
