(she/her)
Hi! I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I have mostly worked with adults and adolescents struggling with anxiety, stress and sleep issues. I have 33 years working as a social worker and helping clients. I enjoy this partnership with clients and working together to reach peace, happiness and your goals. My approach to therapy is eclectic which means I use a variety of approaches to help you arrive at your best self. Frequently, I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) while combining elements of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Mindfulness. I also focus on uncovering your strengths as a core foundation to then work on areas preventing you from reaching your goals and achieving happiness. I enjoy assisting others and providing a listening ear. I believe that one has the power to experience happiness despite difficulties and/or unwelcoming circumstances. We can influence our brains and learn skills to handle stress, anxiety, and life challenges. I enjoy sharing knowledge to better assist clients to manage obstacles so that they can ultimately live a happier life.
Clients should expect the first session to be a time for them to share their life stories. They will also have the opportunity to learn about my work as a social worker and my skills as a therapist. This will be an opportunity to begin building our relationship.
As a therapist a great strength I possess is creating a judgement-free and calm environment for sessions with clients. I believe that our time together should be peaceful where clients look forward to coming to sessions to work on alleviating symptoms, accomplishing goals, and developing better coping strategies. I am also resourceful at finding additional supports that clients may need depending on areas of concern.
I have found that I work best with anyone who desires to reach within and uncover the tools one possesses to find inner peace and happiness. Most of my work has been with adolescents and adults. I am most comfortable working with clients who have anxiety, mild depression, and are experiencing stress. Also, due to working many years with students in school, I am very skilled at helping them meet with school success.
I use this treatment method to help clients be aware of their cognitions/thoughts (and feelings) and then see the connection between one's thoughts, feelings and behavior.
I use this approach by incorporating a Christian worldview and spiritual principals into sessions.
I believe there is not one approach that meets all needs. I use an eclectic style individualizing treatment and approaches to each client's specific needs.
I use faith based therapy to incorporate spiritual or religious beliefs into sessions to help clients tapped into approaches that hold significance to them.
Mindfulness offers benefits to improved mental health. I incorporate this into my practice by exposing clients to tools such as breathing, meditation, and present moment awareness. Additionally, being aware of negative thoughts offers great potential in changing them to experience more positive feelings and improved mood.
