I am Kai Hutson, a licensed mental health counselor located in Florida. I graduated with a Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in November of 2021 from Walden University. With my degree, I also gained a specialization in treating addiction. I completed my internship in mental health counseling with Children’s Home Society from March of 2021 through November 2021. During my time in my internship, I counseled patients from the age of 9-45, and gained experience in counseling with a variety of issues, including anxiety, Depression, OCD, and PTSD. I also led a counseling group that helped children ages 9-12 deal with divorce and the challenges that come along with that. I have been working as counselor post-gradsince February of 2022. I have counseled clients from the age of 6-74, gaining experience in a variety of issues including oppositional defiance, anxiety, depression, PTSD, self-esteem, and intrusive thoughts. I became a counselor after I received counseling herself, and the impact that it made on my life inspired me to want to help people in the same way that I was helped. If I am able to help one person in the same way that I was helped, then this career is worth it to me. I uses a Strengths-Based approach, combined with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. My goal as a counselor is to help her patients manage the curveballs that life often throws us with the help of coping skills and a positive outlook.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

For our first session, we will work towards getting to know one another and looking at your goals for therapy. If you are unsure about your goals, we can work together to determine what those goals might look like. I will explain the basics of cognitive behavioral therapy, highlighting how our behaviors, thoughts, and feelings are all interconnected. I will answer any questions that you might have, as I understand that therapy can be intimidating. Being vulnerable is not something that we typically volunteer for in our day-to-day life. My goal within our first few sessions is to create a warm, welcome environment for you to feel comfortable in.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I have helped clients of all ages better manage their anxiety, depression, and related challenges through a warm, strengths-based approach. I also use cognitive behavioral techniques, in order to help clients replace unhealthy thought patterns, build coping skills, and inspire change.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

My ideal client is anyone who is sick of struggling, whether it be due to anxiety, depression, trauma, relationships, or other related issues. This client is someone who is willing to be vulnerable, and who wants to truly put in the work so that they can better manage their life with the help of a caring therapist. My ideal client is not someone who plans on being in therapy forever, but someone who wants to learn the tools and skills so that they can manage stress in a healthy way. I was inspired through my own experiences in therapy to become a therapist. Let's create change together.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use cognitive behavioral techniques to help clients reframe their thoughts, challenge overthinking, and ignite new behaviors that promote positive well-being. I practice grounding and mindfulness techniques throughout sessions to ensure clients are in the right head space for change and peace.

Strength-Based

I use strength-based practices to help clients improve self-esteem, and use the strengths that they already possess to help overcome challenges and self-doubt.

Person-centered (Rogerian)

I use person-centered techniques to ensure that clients are heard and understood. I validate and recognize my clients' feelings to help make sure that they have a safe space where they can be heard and understood.

Psychoeducation

I utilize psychoeducation to educate my clients on their diagnoses, allowing them to better understand what they are going through and which treatment technique would be the most useful.
