Rasheedah Leonard
I’m a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor who works with adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, life transitions, and feeling overwhelmed or stuck. My approach is warm, down-to-earth, and collaborative. I believe you are the expert on your own life, and my role is to help you uncover the answers within yourself while providing support, practical tools, and a safe space to work through what’s getting in the way. I draw from CBT, ACT, and IFS-informed approaches and tailor therapy to each person rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach.
Strengths
I bring warmth, empathy, honesty, and a down-to-earth approach to my sessions. I create space for clients to feel heard without judgment, but I also believe therapy should help you grow. When appropriate, I will gently challenge patterns, help you look at situations from a different perspective, and encourage you to recognize your own strengths. I want our sessions to feel like a safe place where you can be yourself while still doing meaningful work toward change.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. I believe that the way we interpret our experiences can strongly influence how we feel and how we respond to difficult situations. Through CBT, I help clients identify unhelpful thought patterns, challenge negative beliefs, and develop healthier perspectives and coping strategies. My approach is collaborative and practical, allowing clients to build on their strengths while learning skills they can apply to everyday situations, relationships, and emotional challenges.
Motivational Interviewing
I use Motivational Interviewing to help clients explore their thoughts and feelings about change in a supportive, nonjudgmental environment. I recognize that clients may feel uncertain or conflicted about making changes, even when they know something in their life is no longer working for them. Through collaboration, open-ended questions, reflection, and exploration of personal values and goals, I help clients identify their own motivation for change. My role is not to tell clients what they should do, but to help them recognize their strengths, work through barriers, and make decisions that are meaningful and realistic for their lives.
