Judy Daubenmire
Hi, I’m Judy. I’ve been a counselor for over 20 years, and I enjoy getting to know people beyond the problems that bring them to therapy. People spend a lot of their lives being told how to be. I want to give you room to figure out what you think, what matters to you, and what you want to change. My style is conversational.
Life has taught me that you can be doing your best and still feel overwhelmed or unsure of yourself.
I ask questions, share observations, and appreciate a little humor along the way. You don’t have to know where to start. We can figure that out together.
First session
The first session is a chance for us to get to know each other. I’ll ask about what brings you to therapy, some of your history, and what you hope might be different with counseling. We’ll have a conversation, you’ll have room to ask questions, and we’ll begin figuring out what you’d like to work on.
Strengths
Life has taught me that you can be doing your best and still feel overwhelmed or unsure of yourself. I bring that understanding into my sessions, along with more than 20 years of counseling experience. I’m interested in hearing your side of things and understanding what matters to you. There’s room to be honest, have mixed feelings, and even laugh while working through something hard.
Ideal clients
I enjoy working with people who spend so much time meeting others’ expectations that they’ve lost track of what they want or need. They may be dealing with anxiety, difficult experiences, relationship concerns, or changes they didn’t expect. I especially enjoy working with young adults, though these concerns can come up at any age. You don’t have to come in knowing what to say or what needs to change. we can start with whatever is on your mind.
Origin story
I know how much it matters to have a voice and to feel heard. I wanted to become a therapist to give people space to speak openly, take their own feelings seriously, and have a say in their lives.
Ongoing work together
We’ll talk about what you want to be different in your life and check in along the way. Progress might mean worrying less, speaking up about what you need, handling a difficult situation differently, or spending less time second-guessing yourself. Sometimes you’ll notice a change right away. Other times, you may look back and realize something that used to overwhelm you feels more manageable.
Treatment methods
EMDR
I use EMDR to help you work through difficult experiences that still affect how you feel about yourself or respond to situations today. We’ll first spend time understanding your concerns and building ways to manage distress. When you’re ready, we’ll use guided eye movements or another form of alternating stimulation as you focus on a memory. You don’t have to describe every detail, and we’ll check in throughout the process. The goal is for the experience to feel less upsetting and have less influence on your life now.
