About me

Hi, my name is Dr. Gabriela Acevedo-Iguina. I hold a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Carlos Albizu University in San Juan, Puerto Rico. I completed an APA-accredited internship in Trauma-Informed Care and Multicultural Community Mental Health Services, and I am currently licensed as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in the state of Massachusetts.I am deeply passionate about providing quality, compassionate care to underserved and marginalized communities. As a bilingual clinician (English and Spanish), I strive to create a therapeutic environment that is inclusive, culturally sensitive, and empowering. My clinical approach is integrative and client-centered, combining evidence-based modalities such as Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and other third-wave CBT strategies. I also incorporate Trauma-Informed Care principles to ensure safety, trust, and empowerment throughout the therapeutic process.By blending these approaches, I tailor therapy to each client’s unique needs, fostering psychological flexibility, emotional resilience, and practical coping skills. My goal is to help clients navigate life’s challenges while honoring their individual stories, values, and strengths, ultimately supporting meaningful and lasting change.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Our first session is a safe space to pause and focus entirely on you. Together, we’ll explore what brought you to therapy, what may feel heavy or unclear right now, and what you hope to gain from our work together. There’s no need to have the perfect words — just an open, honest conversation where you can feel heard and understood. I’ll ask thoughtful questions to learn more about your story, your goals, and what meaningful support looks like for you. From there, we’ll begin to outline a plan that feels realistic, intentional, and tailored to your needs. By the end of our first meeting, you’ll leave with a clearer sense of direction and a few practical tools to help you start feeling more grounded and hopeful.Therapy is a collaborative process, and this first step is about beginning that partnership with trust, compassion, and purpose.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

As a therapist, my greatest strengths lie in creating a professional, supportive, and compassionate space where insight leads to meaningful change. I combine evidence-based strategies with authentic connection, helping clients move from self-awareness to practical action. Together, we’ll build coping skills, communication tools, and self-care habits that truly fit your daily life. My goal is not only to help you navigate difficult moments, but to support you in rediscovering your inner strengths, resilience, and confidence — so you can move forward with clarity and purpose. I integrate modern, evidence-based therapeutic methods within a personalized and goal-oriented framework. Each session is thoughtfully tailored to your unique needs, ensuring that your time in therapy feels intentional, empowering, and effective.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

My ideal clients are individuals who are ready to explore themselves on a deeper level — those seeking greater self-understanding, healing, and personal growth. I am especially passionate about supporting members of the Latinx and other underserved communities who may not always feel fully seen, heard, or represented in traditional therapeutic spaces. Together, we’ll create a space that honors your identity, lived experiences, and personal story while fostering meaningful change, emotional balance, and a stronger connection to your authentic self.

My treatment methods

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

I have worked extensively with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which is a form of cognitive-behavioral therapy that focuses on increasing psychological flexibility. My experience includes using ACT with clients facing anxiety, depression, chronic pain, trauma, and stress-related challenges. Over time, I have seen ACT help clients develop a more mindful relationship with their thoughts and emotions, rather than trying to control or avoid them, which often leads to improved overall functioning and wellbeing.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have extensive experience using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients address a wide range of mental health challenges, including anxiety, depression, phobias, obsessive-compulsive tendencies, and stress-related difficulties. CBT’s structured, evidence-based approach allows me to guide clients in identifying unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors and replacing them with more adaptive alternatives, leading to measurable improvements in mood and functioning.

Trauma Informed Care

I have extensive experience integrating Trauma-Informed Care principles into my clinical practice. TIC is not a single therapeutic approach but a framework that ensures all interactions and interventions recognize the prevalence and impact of trauma. My work with clients who have experienced childhood trauma, interpersonal violence, or other adverse life events has emphasized safety, empowerment, and collaboration. This approach helps clients feel understood, respected, and supported throughout the healing process.

Integrative

I have substantial experience using an integrative therapeutic approach, which combines techniques and principles from multiple evidence-based therapies—such as CBT, ACT, trauma-informed care, psychodynamic approaches, and mindfulness—tailored to each client’s unique needs. This flexibility allows me to address complex mental health concerns in a holistic and personalized way, optimizing outcomes for diverse populations.
