Rebecca Juliana
Welcome! You've already accomplished the toughest part of seeking help - researching. I'm glad you're here. I am the opposite of a "blank slate therapist" - I show up in sessions prepared to meet your humanity with my own. Take your shoes off, sit comfortably, grab a snack or a comforting drink, I will be doing the same. I am neurodivergent, a member of the LGBTQ+ community, and live in a bigger body. I am a neurodivergent and LGBTQ+ affirming therapist and I firmly believe in Health at Every Size (HAES). I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) and have completed Level 1 training in Internal Family Systems (IFS). I come from a holistic perspective, blending mindfulness, person-centered, and somatic-based techniques.
First session
After your first session, I hope we are able to establish a plan moving forward, identifying the goals you'd like to work on in therapy. The first session can feel more like a clinical interview, but I hope we are able to obtain all necessary information for documentation through a conversational, low-stakes discussion. Especially after asking my clients so many questions, I always open the floor for clients to ask me anything they may be wondering about!
Strengths
My hope is that each client I meet with will be able to walk out of therapy sessions with the confidence to advocate for themselves, having found their own authentic voice. A reinvigorated belief of "I am good enough." To be a therapist is an honor – I will hold space safely for you, and will hold your story with care, grace, and encouragement. And don't worry - we'll keep the big lights off.
Ideal clients
I have over 9 years of experience in direct care with children, teens, and adults. I completed EMDR training through an EMDRIA-approved consultant and completed Level 1 training of Internal Family Systems model with the IFS institute. I have multiple years of experience working with the LGBTQ+ community including non-binary/transgender folks. I currently provide space for an adult peer trans support group. I am interested and trained in assisting clients through eating disorders, reclaiming embodiment, and trauma. I am flexible and ready to meet my neurodivergent clients where they are at by dimming lights, minimizing background noise, multiple seating choices, and any other accommodations that may be needed. I am trained in running therapeutic tabletop roleplaying games, and can talk nerd with anyone willing to jump on the geek train with me!
Treatment methods
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
From ACT MADE SIMPLE by Russ Harris, MD: "At its core, ACT is a behavioral therapy: it’s about taking action. But it’s not about just any old action. First, it’s about values-guided action... ACT gets you in touch with what really matters in the big picture: your heart’s deepest desires for whom you want to be and what you want to do during your brief time on this planet. You then use these core values to guide, motivate, and inspire behavioral change. Second, it’s about “mindful” action: action that you take consciously, with full awareness—open to your experience and fully engaged in whatever you’re doing. ACT gets its name from one of its core messages: accept what is out of your personal control, and commit to taking action that enriches your life. The aim of ACT is to help us create a rich, full, and meaningful life, while accepting the pain that life inevitably brings. ACT does this by teaching [skills] to handle painful thoughts and feelings effectively, in such a way that they have much less impact and influence ... and helping us to clarify what’s truly important and meaningful to us ... and use that knowledge to guide, inspire, and motivate us to set goals and take action that enriches our life."
Internal Family Systems (IFS)
Internal Family Systems therapy views each person as a complex inner system - similar to how emotions are broken down into characters in INSIDE OUT. These parts of us make us who we are, even if they are in conflict with one another. An example of this - when making a decision, have you ever felt torn? Explained to others that a part of you wants to choose A, but another part of you wants to choose B? In IFS, we can dig deeper into those parts, get to know why they want path A or B, their hopes for you, and their ultimate goals. We hopefully find a more Self-aligned life through these healing steps!
