Sonia Trefflich
I’m Sonia Trefflich, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and founder of Resilient Journey Counseling. I help sensitive souls, trauma survivors, and people who feel overwhelmed by anxiety, grief, or the pressure to hold everything together. I began my counseling experience in 2010 and am certified in EMDR.
I help sensitive souls and trauma survivors feel less overwhelmed, reclaim their voice, and build trust in themselves.
I offer therapy in English and Spanish, with a warm, collaborative approach that respects your culture and lived experience. Together, we’ll explore how past experiences affect your present, strengthen boundaries, and build practical skills to help you feel more grounded and confident.
First session
Our first session is a chance to get to know each other and understand what brings you to therapy. We’ll discuss your current concerns, relevant history, and what you hope will change. I’ll explain my approach, review confidentiality and its limits, and answer your questions. You can share at a pace that feels manageable, without having to tell your whole story at once. We’ll finish by identifying initial priorities and discussing next steps together.
Strengths
I bring warmth, honesty, cultural sensitivity, and a balance of compassion and gentle challenge. I’ll listen closely and make room for difficult feelings while helping you recognize patterns that may be keeping you stuck. My approach combines EMDR, practical coping tools, and attention to how stress affects your thoughts, emotions, and body. We’ll move at a pace that respects your readiness, with ongoing space for your feedback. Your culture, identity, and personal values will help guide our work together.
Ideal clients
I work well with sensitive, thoughtful people who feel overwhelmed, question their worth, or find themselves putting everyone else’s needs first. You may be navigating trauma, anxiety, grief, or painful relationship patterns. You want to feel more grounded, set healthier boundaries, and understand how your past influences your present. You don’t need to have everything figured out or know exactly what to say. We can begin with what feels most important to you and work toward change at a manageable pace.
Origin story
What draws me to this work is helping people feel understood and supported as they make sense of painful experiences. I’m especially passionate about supporting people who have learned to put their own needs last or question their worth. Helping someone reconnect with their voice, develop self-compassion, and recognize their capacity for change gives this work meaning for me.
Ongoing work together
Our work will combine understanding your experiences with practical steps toward change. Depending on your needs and readiness, we may use EMDR, coping skills, mindfulness, and work on boundaries and self-compassion. We’ll regularly revisit your goals and discuss changes in your symptoms, relationships, and daily life. Progress might mean feeling less overwhelmed by reminders of the past, recovering more easily after stress, expressing your needs, or making decisions with greater confidence. Your feedback will help guide our pace and focus.
Treatment methods
EMDR
I use EMDR to help clients process trauma and distressing experiences that continue to affect their emotions, relationships, and sense of self. We begin with preparation, grounding, and coping skills before identifying memories and beliefs connected to your current concerns. When you’re ready, we use guided eye movements or alternating taps as part of the reprocessing work. I check in throughout and adjust the pace with you. Our goals are to reduce distress, strengthen self-trust, and help past experiences feel less overwhelming in the present.
Trauma-Informed Care
I approach therapy with an understanding of how trauma can affect your emotions, relationships, and sense of safety. I prioritize trust, choice, and collaboration, and I respect your boundaries and readiness to share. Together, we explore how past experiences may shape current patterns while recognizing the ways you have adapted to survive. We build on your strengths and develop practical coping skills, with attention to your culture, identity, and lived experience. Your feedback helps guide our work and pace.
