Hannah Krodel
Hi, I’m Hannah (Grae) Krodel. I’m a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and a Board-Certified Art Therapist (ATR-BC), and I see clients online throughout Indiana. I believe therapy works best when you feel like a whole person in the room, not a diagnosis or a checklist. My sessions are collaborative, warm, and paced around you. Sometimes that looks like talk therapy. Sometimes it means picking up a marker, some collage scraps, or clay and letting your hands say what words can’t quite reach yet. You don’t need any art experience or “talent” for this to work. Art in therapy is about expression and discovery, not making something pretty.
Crow's Chroma Art Therapy: Where crows meet color
I’ve worked across a wide range of settings, including intensive outpatient programs, hospital and neuroscience care, community mental health, and university programs. That experience taught me to meet people wherever they are, whether you’re in crisis, feeling stuck, or just know something needs to change. Outside of sessions, I’m a mixed-media artist, a writer, and a cat person, and I bring that same creativity and curiosity into my work with clients. If you’re looking for a space that’s honest, compassionate, and a little more creative than you might expect, I’d love to meet you.
First session
Our first session is all about getting to know each other. There’s no pressure to have everything figured out or to share more than you’re ready to. I’ll ask about what brought you in, what’s been going on in your life, and what you’d like to be different. You’re welcome to ask me anything too, about how I work, what art therapy looks like, or whether I’m the right fit for you. We’ll talk through your goals and start sketching out a plan together. If you’re curious, I may invite you to try a simple, low-pressure art activity, but it’s always optional. We’ll also cover practical things like confidentiality and how sessions work, so nothing feels like a mystery. Most people leave the first session feeling a little lighter, clearer about what they want from therapy, and more comfortable with the idea of coming back. My goal is for you to walk away feeling heard and knowing what comes next.
Strengths
My biggest strength is that I offer more than one way in. As both a licensed counselor and a board-certified art therapist, I can work with you through conversation, creativity, or a mix of both. Many people find that drawing, collage, or other hands-on work helps them reach feelings and insights that are hard to talk about directly. If art isn’t your thing, that’s okay too; we’ll find what fits you. I’ve worked in intensive outpatient, hospital, community mental health, and university settings, so I’m comfortable with a wide range of concerns and intensity levels. I stay steady when things feel heavy and flexible when you need something different. Clients often tell me sessions feel genuine and down to earth. I’m warm, honest, and collaborative, and I’ll treat you as the expert on your own life while offering tools, perspective, and gentle challenge when it helps. My goal is for you to leave sessions feeling understood and a little more like yourself.
Ideal clients
My ideal client is someone who’s ready to try something a little different. Maybe you’ve done traditional talk therapy before and felt like something was missing, or maybe you’ve never been to therapy and aren’t sure where to start. You might be dealing with anxiety, depression, burnout, life transitions, relationship struggles, or past experiences that still weigh on you. You don’t need to be an artist or even think of yourself as creative. What matters most is curiosity and openness to exploring what’s going on beneath the surface. I especially enjoy working with creatives, neurodivergent folks, and people who feel like they think or process differently than those around them, and anyone who’s tired of feeling boxed in by one way of doing things. Your goals might be to understand yourself better, feel more grounded, build healthier coping skills, or simply feel less alone in what you’re carrying. Wherever you’re starting from, we’ll work at a pace that feels right for you.
Treatment methods
Trauma-Informed Care
Trauma-informed care shapes everything about how I work. It starts with recognizing that many people carry experiences that affect how they feel, think, and respond, often in ways that make complete sense once we understand them. Instead of asking “What’s wrong with you?” I’m more interested in “What happened, and how did you learn to survive it?” In practice, that means safety and choice come first. You decide what to share and when, and we’ll never push into painful memories before you’re ready. I’ll be transparent about what we’re doing and why, check in often, and respect your “no” just as much as your “yes.” We’ll build grounding and coping skills early so you have tools to feel steady before we go deeper. Art therapy is a natural fit for trauma work. Difficult experiences are often stored in ways that are hard to put into words, and creating with your hands can help you express and process them at a safer distance. The artwork can hold what feels too big to say out loud, and you stay in control of how much you explore. I also pay attention to how identity, culture, and past experiences with systems (including healthcare and therapy) affect how safe someone feels. My goal is a space where you feel respected, in control, and genuinely collaborated with, not managed.
