FLOR Farinas
I’m Flor Farinas, LMHC, and the founder of Beautiful Mind Counseling in Mount Dora, Florida. I provide a warm, supportive, and personalized approach to therapy, helping children, adolescents, adults, and couples navigate anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationship challenges, and emotional difficulties. My goal is to create a safe, compassionate space where clients feel heard, understood, and empowered to make meaningful changes in their lives.
First session
Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and begin understanding what brings you to therapy. We’ll discuss your concerns, goals, and what you hope to get from counseling, while you have space to ask questions and share at your own pace. Together, we’ll begin creating a personalized plan for your therapy journey in a warm, supportive, and judgment-free environment.
Strengths
I bring warmth, empathy, and a genuine, nonjudgmental presence to each session. I tailor therapy to each client’s unique needs and use practical, evidence-based approaches to help clients better understand their emotions, develop healthy coping skills, and work toward meaningful goals. I also value creating a safe and trusting relationship where clients feel comfortable being themselves and making progress at their own pace.
Ideal clients
My ideal clients are individuals, children, adolescents, and couples who are ready to better understand themselves, work through challenges, and create meaningful change. I enjoy working with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, life transitions, emotional regulation challenges, or simply feeling stuck and unsure of where to begin. Whether they are seeking support during a difficult season or looking to grow and strengthen their emotional well-being, I provide a safe, compassionate space where they can feel heard and supported.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Together, we identify unhelpful thought patterns and explore more balanced and effective ways of responding to challenges. I incorporate practical strategies and skills that clients can use both in and outside of sessions to manage emotions, improve coping, and work toward their personal goals.
Play Therapy
I use play therapy to help children express their thoughts, feelings, and experiences in a way that feels natural and comfortable for them. Through developmentally appropriate play activities, children can build emotional regulation, communication, problem-solving, and coping skills while developing a trusting therapeutic relationship. I create a safe, supportive environment where children can explore emotions and practice new skills through play.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
I use a person-centered approach to create a warm, accepting, and nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard, respected, and understood. I believe each person has unique strengths and the capacity for growth, and I work collaboratively with clients rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach. Together, we explore their experiences, strengths, and goals while moving at a pace that feels comfortable and meaningful to them.
Gottman method
I use principles from the Gottman Method to help couples strengthen their connection, communication, and emotional understanding. We work on identifying patterns that may be creating conflict, improving communication, building friendship and trust, and learning healthier ways to navigate disagreements. My goal is to help couples develop practical skills that support a stronger, more respectful, and fulfilling relationship.
Internal Family Systems (IFS)
I incorporate principles of Internal Family Systems (IFS) to help clients better understand the different thoughts, emotions, and “parts” of themselves that may arise in response to life experiences. Through a compassionate and curious approach, clients can explore these inner experiences, develop greater self-awareness, and respond to themselves with more understanding. I use IFS-informed techniques alongside other therapeutic approaches based on each client’s individual needs and goals.
