New to Grow
I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in Ohio and I have over three decades of walking alongside people who have or are experiencing the hardships this life often delivers. I consider myself to be a change agent and my areas of expertise include trauma, grief and loss, end of life issues, parenting concerns, anxiety, and depression. I use evidenced based practices including (but not limited to) Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
Our first session will be an intake assessment, in which I will get a small picture of who you are, what your experiences and concerns are, and what your goals are for therapy. I will talk to you about any diagnosis that I believe you meet criteria for, based on what you tell me. I will talk about whether we both feel we are a good match for counseling and will likely make some recommendations for treatment planning.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
I consider myself to be a change agent, an effective communicator, and am down to earth and practical. I believe we all are wounded to some measure and I meet people where they are at in their healing journey. I believe we all should treat each other with dignity and respect because we are all human. I have practiced skills that allow me to help people see themselves and their patterns in life (thought, emotional, relational, communication) and learn how to begin changing those patterns that are unhealthy or negatively impacting them. My clients see me as compassionate, real, and knowledgeable.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
I love working with people who are ready to embrace real change in their lives! Whether that is managing your anxiety and/or depression, getting unstuck from unhealthy relationship and behavioral patterns or needing to adjust to change and loss in your life, I can help. If you are ready to look at your past and heal your trauma, I can help you with this hard work to overcome the negative effect it has left on your life.
EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidenced based therapy that I am trained and certified in, that helps treat trauma, anxiety, depression, phobias, and a host of other mental health concerns. I use it to help people adaptively process both negative events they have experienced and any negative beliefs connected that are still impacting their life and keeping them stuck or triggered.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I have extensive training in CBT and use it to help people to think about their thoughts and how those thoughts are impacting them in the here and now. I then teach people how to improve their thinking to help them live their life in a healthy and more productive way.
Cognitive Processing (CPT)
I am trained in CPT to help people process trauma using a trauma informed cognitive-behavioral protocol. It is helpful for those who have one time traumas and are open to writing and talking about their experience with a sensory component as well.
Christian Counseling
For people who have a strong Christian faith background and are wanting a faith based practitioner, I have decades of being a follower of Jesus Christ and have studied the Bible extensively and assist people with practically applying those Bible-based tenets. I believe Christ has called us to examine ourselves (Lam 3:40; 2Co 13:5) and do our healing and sanctifying work (Ecc 3:3; Isa 53:5; Php 2:12) this side of eternity.
Grief Therapy
I have 10 years experience experience working in a hospice setting and have extensive training in end of life, grief and loss, including complicated grief. I walk alongside people who need support and understanding of their loss experience and learn how to live with, what cannot be fixed.
