Renesha Martin
Hi, I'm Renesha! I'm a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, trauma specialist, and EMDR clinician who believes therapy doesn't have to feel intimidating, overly clinical, or like you're talking to someone who just nods and asks, "And how does that make you feel?" I'm a real person who understands that life can be messy, relationships can be complicated, and sometimes you're simply tired of being the strong one.
My approach is warm, down-to-earth, honest, and sprinkled with humor when appropriate.
My approach is warm, down-to-earth, honest, and sprinkled with humor when appropriate. I create a space where you can show up exactly as you are, without judgment or pressure to have everything figured out. I specialize in helping people navigate anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, life transitions, and those moments when you realize something in your life needs to change, but you're not quite sure where to start. As a therapist, business owner, and someone who understands the demands of balancing multiple roles, I recognize how easy it is to put yourself last while trying to hold everything else together. I believe therapy should be more than just talking about what's wrong. It's about understanding your patterns, developing practical tools, setting healthy boundaries, and building a life that feels good to YOU. I'll support you, challenge you when needed, celebrate your progress, and occasionally make you laugh along the way. You don't have to have it all together to get started. You just have to be willing to show up.
First session
First things first, take a deep breath! You don't have to come prepared with the perfect words or know exactly where to start. Our first session is about getting to know each other, understanding what brings you to therapy, and exploring what you'd like to accomplish. I believe therapy should feel like a conversation, not an interrogation. We'll discuss your experiences, challenges, strengths, and goals at a pace that feels comfortable for you. For individuals, we'll focus on your personal experiences, emotional well-being, and areas where you'd like to grow. For couples, I'll create a balanced space where both partners feel heard as we explore communication patterns, relationship challenges, and shared goals. For families, we'll focus on understanding each person's perspective, strengthening connections, and identifying healthier ways to communicate. You can expect warmth, honesty, compassion, and maybe a little laughter along the way. We'll also discuss what working together might look like and develop a plan tailored to your needs. My goal is simple: for you to leave your first session feeling heard, respected, and hopeful about what's possible.
Strengths
I bring warmth, humor, honesty, and real-life perspective to every session. I'm compassionate but direct. I'll meet you where you are, challenge you when needed, and celebrate your growth. My goal is to create a space where you feel heard, supported, and empowered to make meaningful changes.
Ideal clients
My ideal client is someone who's tired of feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or constantly putting everyone else's needs before their own. Maybe you're navigating anxiety, depression, past trauma, relationship challenges, or a major life transition. Perhaps you're the strong one everyone depends on, but you're wondering, "Who's showing up for me?" You don't have to have everything figured out. I work best with people who are curious about themselves, open to growth, and willing to do the work, even when it's uncomfortable. I appreciate clients who value honesty, authenticity, and a little humor along the way. We'll laugh when appropriate, have some meaningful conversations, and tackle the hard stuff together. If you're ready to break unhealthy patterns, establish boundaries, rediscover yourself, and create a life that feels more fulfilling, we might be a great fit!
Treatment methods
EMDR
I use EMDR to help clients process painful memories, heal from trauma, and break free from negative beliefs. Through guided eye movements or gentle tapping, we work to reduce emotional distress so past experiences no longer have the same hold on your present.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use CBT to help clients recognize how their thoughts influence their emotions and behaviors. Together, we'll challenge negative thinking patterns, develop healthier coping skills, and practice practical strategies to manage stress, anxiety, and everyday challenges.
Culturally Sensitive Therapy
I recognize that your culture, identity, values, and life experiences shape how you see the world. I create a welcoming, judgment-free space where you feel respected, understood, and heard. Together, we'll explore your challenges while honoring what makes you uniquely YOU.
Mindfulness-Based Therapy
I use mindfulness to help clients slow down, manage overwhelming emotions, and stay present instead of getting caught up in past regrets or future worries. Through breathing exercises, grounding techniques, and self-awareness, we'll build practical skills to help you feel calmer and more in control.
Trauma-Informed Care
I create a safe, supportive space where you feel heard, respected, and in control of your healing journey. I understand how past experiences can affect your emotions, relationships, and daily life. We'll work at your pace to build trust, develop coping skills, and help you move forward with confidence.
