About me

I have been a licensed therapist for 38 years, working in a number of settings as a therapist , supervisor and clinical director. My experience has taught me that a combination of talk therapy and experiential therapy works best for my clients, especially those dealing with trauma histories. I specialize in working with clients who have experienced trauma, grief and relational wounding, utilizing both cognitive and experiential approaches. My approach is collaborative - while I may have a lot of experience doing therapy, you are the expert about you. When we combine our expertise, healing happens, self esteem improves, and anxieties about life lessen.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

During our first session we will spend time getting to know one another and discovering your needs. We will explore why you are seeking therapy and what you hope to achieve in our work together. I’ll ask a little about your background and life experiences. We’ll discuss my therapeutic approaches to ensure they feel like a good match for you. At the end of our time we will have a pretty good idea of where we are going in our work together and how we’re going to get there.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I create a compassionate, empathic presence with my clients. Clients come away from the first session feeling understood and finding hope that they will be more able to manage the difficulties bringing them to therapy.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

Clients I work best with are those who are willing to enter into a therapeutic relationship and collaborate with me to explore new ways of thinking, try out new behaviors between sessions, and who want to learn how to manage their emotions more effectively. I tell my clients to lean into their curiosity about themselves rather than their self criticism.

My treatment methods

Person-centered (Rogerian)

Whether using CBT or an experiential therapy like EMDR, I believe you come first and research has proven that a genuine, empathic therapeutic relationship forms the basis for all effective therapy.

EMDR

I am trained in EMDR Level II and use it to help clients build internal strengths and process traumatic events and relational trauma.

Brainspotting

Brainspotting is a non-invasive, gentle trauma therapy that is based on the belief that where we are looking corresponds to places in the brain where traumas are stored. By focusing on one of these “spots”, the brain can process traumatic experiences more effectively than just talking about them. I am a Level II trained Brainspotting therapist.

Christian Counseling

I believe God does the healing and our job is to cooperate with that. I use a faith based approach for clients who desire that, while accepting and respecting everyone’s spiritual and faith journeys.

Experiential Therapy

I have training in Gestalt Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and other experiential therapies to help the healing process.
