Michaela Garrison
Something unique about me is that I moved to the U.S. from Germany after high school, so I truly understand what it’s like to step outside of your comfort zone I have enjoyed working in mental health care for over 10 years, starting out as an RN, after obtaining my Associate of Science degree in Registered Nursing. I worked for several large hospitals across the US, including MUSC Health, until I started my degree to become a PMHNP at Frontier Nursing University.
I will never pressure you to start any medications and believe that typically less is more when it comes to the amount of different medications patients take.
Working in Mental Health has been a dream of mine since childhood, when there were little resources available. In this field, we acknowledge that life gets messy. This honesty is unique to the field and it is the reason why I could never do anything else!
First session
During our first visit, I will try to get to know you, your history and experiences during past treatments. If there are things that helped you in the past, let me know! Relax, I will guide you through the process! Cost for the first session only is $160 because it is a comprehensive intake, after that it is $120 per visit.
Strengths
My focus is medication management, in addition to supportive therapy! My approach to mental health care prioritizes your unique needs and personality. I want to give you the tools to overcome your struggles and guide you along the way. My focus areas of practice are the treatment of depression, anxiety, ADHD and insomnia. I will never pressure you to start any medications and believe that typically less is more when it comes to the amount of different medications patients take. I use a very open-minded and non judgmental approach to care. We all struggle sometimes to be our best selves. I focus on your intrinsic motivation to make positive changes for a healthier YOU!
Ideal clients
My ideal client shows up for sessions. Showing up for yourself is very important in treatment success.
Treatment methods
Biofeedback
I remind clients of the power of deep breathing and guided imagery to calm. Slowing and deepening breaths helps reduce heart rate and calms the nervous system.
