Are you struggling with a mental health disorder where nothing seems to work? Would you like to experience mental health that will increase your quality of life? Good mental health is characterized by the ability to perform a variety of essential skills and activities, such as learning, feeling, expressing, managing a range of emotions, and forming and maintaining meaningful relationships. Hello, I am Lakesha Jones, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) educated to treat mental illness across the life span. I attended Grand Canyon University, where I received a Master of Education in Nursing degree. I also attended National University, received a PMHNP certification in 2019, and am currently a Doctorate Nursing Practice (DNP) candidate.
The initial appointment will consist of a comprehensive evaluation, including but not limited to discussions of condition, medications, desired effects, risks, benefits, and adverse effects. We will also discuss the relevance of diet and nutrition, relaxation, physical activity, and healthy social connections in preserving physical and mental health. After the initial visit, we will follow up as needed, review the current treatment/medication regimen, identify early signs of decompensation of psychiatric conditions, and check safety plans.
I use various methods and tools such as CBT supportive therapy to engage patients in exploring distorted thought processes that contribute to current symptoms. Solution-focused techniques are used where miracle questions are asked to encourage patients to see the current situation as resolved. Assist patient with making the connection between behaviors and current mood. I use psychotropic genetic testing to examine how your genes may influence your response to commonly prescribed medications for treating depression, anxiety, ADHD, and other mental health issues.
My goal is to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health issues by promoting awareness, increasing accessibility, and decreasing negative stereotypes. I manage and treat most mental health disorders, but my area of interest is Bipolar I and II, Schizophrenia, Depression, Anxiety, Panic Disorder, OCD, PSTD, and ADHD. I have experience in both inpatient and outpatient facilities.
