My name is Jasmin Bonilla. I’m a wife and proud pet parent, originally from the Bronx. Before becoming a therapist, I worked as a Care Coordinator supporting individuals with emotional, intellectual, and developmental disabilities, which shaped my compassionate and individualized approach to care. Clients often share that our work together has not only improved their relationships, but also the way they navigate life’s challenges overall. I deeply value each person I work with and feel honored to be part of their support system. My goal is to create a space where you feel understood, supported, and empowered to make meaningful, lasting changes.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In our first session, you can expect a relaxed and supportive space where we focus on getting to know you at your pace. We’ll talk about what brought you to therapy, explore a brief history of your current concerns, and begin identifying patterns or challenges you’ve been facing. There’s no pressure to share everything all at once—this is simply a starting point. Together, we’ll also begin to create a few simple, meaningful therapeutic goals so you have a clear sense of direction moving forward. My intention is for you to leave the first session feeling heard, understood, and a little more at ease about the process ahead.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I take a therapeutic approach that balances warmth, validation, and practical, skills-based work. I strive to create a space where my clients feel genuinely seen and understood, while also guiding them toward meaningful change through clear, actionable strategies. Drawing from evidence-based approaches like DBT, ACT, EFT, and others, I tailor treatment to each individual rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach. What I find especially important is helping clients not only improve their symptoms, but also shift how they relate to themselves, their emotions, and their relationships. My work emphasizes real-life application, supporting clients in building insight, strengthening coping skills, and creating more balance in their daily lives. I aim to combine compassion, structure, and results-oriented care in a way that fosters strong engagement and lasting progress.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I work with a wide range of mental health concerns and tailor my approach to meet each client’s unique needs, drawing from evidence-based therapies to support meaningful and lasting change. My style is both supportive and practical, helping you better understand your experiences while also building tools you can use in your daily life. I am especially well-suited to support individuals struggling with anxiety, work-life imbalance, life transitions, and the emotional impact of chronic illness or pain. I understand how overwhelming it can feel to constantly manage stress, responsibilities, and physical symptoms, and I aim to provide a space where you feel heard, validated, and empowered. Together, we’ll focus on improving coping strategies, creating more balance, and helping you regain a sense of control and fulfillment in your life.

My treatment methods

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

In my practice, I use a DBT-oriented approach to help you feel both understood and supported while also learning new ways to handle difficult emotions and situations. I’ll work with you to make sense of your reactions without judgment, while also teaching practical skills to manage stress, improve relationships, and feel more in control. Together, we’ll look at real-life situations and find more effective ways to respond so you can create meaningful, lasting change.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

In my practice, I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help you build a healthier relationship with your thoughts and emotions, rather than feeling controlled by them. Instead of trying to eliminate discomfort, we focus on making space for it while learning how to respond in ways that align with your values. Together, we’ll clarify what truly matters to you and take meaningful steps toward that life, even in the presence of difficult thoughts or feelings.

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

In my practice, I use Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) to help you better understand and connect with your emotions, especially in the context of your relationships. We’ll explore patterns that may be causing disconnection or conflict, and work to create a sense of safety where you can express your needs more openly. By strengthening emotional awareness and communication, the goal is to help you build more secure, supportive, and fulfilling connections with others.

Attachment-based

In my practice, I use an attachment-based approach to help you understand how your early relationships may be influencing your current patterns in connection, trust, and emotional safety. Together, we’ll explore how these experiences show up in your relationships today, while creating a supportive space where you can experience consistency, understanding, and security. The goal is to help you build healthier, more secure relationships—with others and with yourself.

Exposure Response Prevention (ERP)

In my practice, I use Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) to help you gradually face the thoughts, situations, or sensations that trigger anxiety or distress, in a safe and supportive way. Together, we’ll practice resisting the urge to engage in compulsive behaviors or avoidance, so your mind and body can learn that the anxiety will pass on its own. Over time, this process helps reduce fear, build confidence, and give you a greater sense of control.
