Shiva Kuczinski

LICSW (she/her)10 years of experience

Hi there. My name is Shiva Kuczinski. I have a background in clinical social work and have been in the field for over 10 years. I have a lot of experience and training in ADHD, anxiety and trauma. I have also have a lot of recent experience in perinatal mood disorders and postpartum anxiety and recovery. As a mother myself I understand women and many real challenges of motherhood. I help women struggling with perinatal anxiety, postpartum anxiety, general anxiety, ADHD, stress, overthinking and overwhelm who feel scattered, insecure and out of touch with their purpose. As my client you may also be someone that is preoccupied by anxious or ruminating thoughts that you find it hard to concentrate or find in joy in the present moment. You may also be experiencing the psychosomatic (physical) symptoms of stress and anxiety and feel so busy that you are not sure where to even begin or get yourself organized enough to start a self-care routine. You are also fatigued and tired of feeling drained or sick all the time. You know it is time to make a change. Working with me, I will help you reset, restore and tap into resilience. We will work with mind, body and soul and I will help you gain the tools to regulate the nervous system so you can feel more calm, confident, focused and more connected to the present moment. We will look at lifestyle and diet as well and we will work on reconnecting to joy and purpose. You deserve to feel and be your best and I am here to help you every step of the way.

First session

I will explore with you what the current problem and what your goals may be. I will ask you some questions to get to know you and may offer some assessment based tools (GAD-7 or PHQ-9) to better understand where you are at. I will ask some questions about your history, any previous treatment and medical conditions as well as explore your current lifestyle and routines. We will have a real discussion to see if we are a good fit for each other.

Strengths

I have a very holistic approach and will look at your whole picture including lifestyle, habits, diet, sleep, etc.

Ideal clients

if you are ready to put in the work, have an open mind and enjoy a more mindfulness based approach, then we will be a fit. If you like more unconventional holistic approaches, then I would like to work with you.

Treatment methods

Compassion-Focused

Through mindfulness practices I have helped clients replace self-hostility with self-compassion and understanding, fostering contentment and safety.

Biofeedback

Through mindfulness exercises I have helped clients learn to become aware of their body sensations and functions and to work towards consciously altering their body's response (e.g., relax tight muscles) to change the feedback, gaining control over functions once thought involuntary.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have helped clients identify and change negative thought patterns and behaviors, focusing on the link between thoughts, feelings, and actions to help them develop healthier coping skills for issues like anxiety, depression, PTSD, and chronic pain.

Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality (CAMS)

I have a lot of experience in safety planning and crisis work to help those experiencing suicidal thoughts.

Mind-body approach

As a former yoga and mindfulness teacher I have a lot of experience with incorporating mindfulness into therapy practice and sessions to help clients to learn mind-body techniques andtake control of their nervous system.
