I have served military families for 12 years. Military and civilian families share many of the same issues. Military families tend to deal with and experience multiple relocations. Many military families move every three to five years. This means moving children to new schools, dealing with household packing and unpacking and stress in general. Civilian and military couples sometimes experience communication issues, disloyalty in the relationship or other stressful issues which cause conflict to arise. Some or all of these issues can be addressed and can find solutions agreeable to the parties involved.
What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?
Clients who attend the initial therapy session can expect Ms. May to share her own brief history for why she became a therapist and what the average client can expect from her. Clients will be asked but not pressured to share a history of and reasons why therapy seemed to be an option. Ms. May has been a counselor and therapist since 2002. Ms. May owned her own private practice in Texas for ten years. She has also counseled numerous couples, individuals and families in South Korea, Japan and Germany.
Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.
Ms. May counseled foster children for eight years, mid-management from a large Round Rock corporation, and families in the military. She also worked as a school-based counselor for three years. Ms. May especially enjoys the experience of observing couples who find remedies and solutions for their issues while attending therapy.
