I'm a licensed professional counselor in private practice for the last 9 years. I specialize in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) integrated with somatic approaches. I help individuals work through the effects of trauma, anxiety, PTSD, and other emotional challenges by addressing both the mind and body's response to distress. By combining EMDR and somatic therapy, I guide clients in reconnecting with their body's innate ability to heal.
In our first session, I like to get to know my clients and what their needs are. I gather information about your history and what specific challenges you're facing in order to determine which direction to go with therapy.
I have come to realize that talk therapy alone is often not enough to truly help people heal from trauma and other emotional challenges. I have the ability to compassionately connect with my clients and help them become more aware of how the body and mind work together to protect them through difficult times. But over a long period of time, those survival mechanisms make people feel stuck. That's why EMDR and Somatic therapy can be a powerful to help my clients move forward in their lives.
Often times I get clients who have felt stuck in their lives for sometime. I have worked with women of all ages, men of varying ages, and some older teens and young adults who need help moving past traumatic things in their lives. My clients come in feeling overwhelmed, stuck, and weighed down by the past. Even feeling disconnected from themselves and others or stuck in survival mode. I love helping my clients restore hope that things can get better.
I have been trained in EMDR and using it in my practice since 2018. With in person clients, I use this method integrated with somatic therapy in order to treat PTSD and help my clients process trauma.
I help clients focus on their emotional state while also checking in with their physical body in order to be more aware of how emotions are experienced physically within the body. This can help build resilience to the body sensations and help cope with distressing feelings both physical and emotional.
CBT is beneficial for helping to learn to reprogram negative thought patterns and help be more aware of how thoughts affect behaviors.
