Garrick Kreitzer

LPCC15 years of experience

I’m Garrick Kreitzer, a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in Kentucky and Ohio with 15+ years of experience helping adult men work through trauma, substance misuse, relationships, and all the challenges that come with life. My therapeutic strategy uses an eclectic, individualized approach that focuses on results and overall mental wellness, and employs concepts and techniques pulled from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, EMDR, Parts Work, and Strengths-Based modalities. However, I tend believe strongly in the "Whatever Works Best For You" frame of clinical reference. I'm excited to work with you!

First session

During our first session, we will get to know each other and figure out, together, what your goals are moving forward. Then we will determine a realistic and appropriate roadmap to get there. My role isn’t to tell you who you should be. It’s to partner with you so you can build a life that feels more meaningful, balanced, and authentic. Our first time together is to identify what that looks like and how we can get there, along with any administrative items.

Strengths

My approach is practical, collaborative, and individualized. I use EMDR, Parts Work, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Strengths-Based approaches to help you understand what’s happening beneath the surface, work through what’s holding you back, and develop improved ways of responding to life. I am sometimes directive and will compassionately challenge you as needed, which sometimes contrasts with some traditional styles of talk therapy. However, many men with whom I've worked prefer a more active and direct style of communication.

Ideal clients

My typical clients are adult men working through trauma, substance misuse, relationships, and all the challenges that come with life. Some are dealing with a traumatic incident that is affecting how they think, feel, or relate to others. Others are simply carrying experiences that are difficult to put into words. As a result, substance misuse often becomes a way of managing their stress. Or perhaps their lives just aren't what they want them to be—whether that means struggles with relationships, divorce, parenting, grief, work, or just their mental wellness as a whole. And many aren't in crisis at all! Sometimes they simply know they want better from themselves and are just looking for ways to self improve. Men don't have to be struggling in order to seek therapy. In fact, your mental health is a major aspect of your overall health, and it should be considered as such. Many clients view counseling from a maintenance and preventative mindset.
