(she/her)
Hi! Welcome to my profile! I am so glad you are here! I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) with 5 years of experience in a variety of settings from substance abuse facilities to community-based mental health agencies to public schools. I predominately work with those caught in the harsh cycle of trauma, anxiety, depression, PTSD, and/or substance use. Don't worry though; I have experience with a variety of additional concerns including (but not limited to) ADHD/ADD, relationship issues, family conflicts and dynamics, self-esteem/self-identity, suicidality and self-harm, panic attacks/Panic Disorder, OCD, and Military/Veteran/First responder issues You live your story and struggles every day. Because of this, I strongly believe that you are the expert on your unique story and that you possess many strengths that will assist you in overcoming your challenges. Serving as a guide and support, I believe together we can work to bring positive change to your life. Taking steps towards change takes courage and I am so proud of you for taking that leap for change!
I am a laid-back, go with the flow, and very non-judgemental person outside of my counseling profession, and I carry those personality traits into my work as a Mental Health Counselor. During the first session, you can expect a safe and open space to share your story without the fear of a negative response from me. As you share your story, I'll ask guided questions to better understand your story, your life, and needs, in order to better help as your counselor moving forward.
My biggest strength is meeting you where you are in your story and journey, especially regarding trauma, anxiety, depression, and PTSD. You can't move forward in your story unless you know where you are and how willing you are to continue, and that is a mindset I hold deep within the therapeutic relationship. Change comes from within, not due to some external force, and I wish to help and support you in that change, whether due to overcoming domestic violence, abuse, anxiety or even PTSD.
I best work with clients who want to break the cycle and chains of trauma, but don't know were to start or how to move forward. These clients know that they suffered trauma and that it effects them, but doesn't understand how to get out of their stuck points, their negative coping, or unhealthy behavior patterns, in order to move forward into their best versions of themselves. This is where I step into to help guide, identify, and implement helpful tools and techniques to bring about real and lasting change, growth, and healing.
CBT is the science of looking at how our thoughts influence our behaviors and our emotions, in a cyclical manner. It requires us to build awareness to these areas and focus on implementing direct and meaningful change. Take the example of another driver swerving into your lane while you are driving down the highway; you get angry, say something less than nice, and flip off the other driver. This is a negative example of CBT, as we responded negatively from a thoughts, emotions, and behavior perspective, however we could change how we respond in this situation for better control. Instead of getting angry, saying something less than nice, and flipping off the other driver, maybe we take a deep breath, don't let their actions effect us, and then move on with our day as if nothing happened; that's the goal of CBT. CBT is considered one of the top treatment modalities/methods for individuals with numerous mental health challenges including anxiety, depression, PTSD, and much more. It involves some awareness, insight, and ultimately practice, but it is easy to learn and proven effective.
