Hi there! My name is Lauren, and I have been a therapist for 14 years. My background is in marriage and family therapy but have found the most joy in working with adults who feel lost or like life is not what they had hoped for. My favorite part of my work has been helping my clients live lives that align with their values and assisting in removal of barriers that prevent them from being the best version of themselves. Ideally, I create a safe environment that is both professional and relaxed.
The first session is setting the stage for our work all the way through to our final session. I start by reviewing informed consent which is just making sure that you understand the basics of how therapy is most effective and ensuring you agree to the expectations of our work. This also covers how important confidentiality is to therapy as well as when that confidentiality is required to be broken in very rare but significant circumstances. I also review your paperwork and ask questions to clarify anything I am wanting more specifics on. Our first few sessions are really focused on building your comfort with me and ensuring you feel good about my ability to support you in the ways you need.
My greatest strengths are building a safe working environment that is focused on approaching your experiences and self with a lot of grace and softness. I believe I have a strong knowledge of trauma work and am confident navigating a person’s journey towards healing. If I had to ask my current clients what they thought of working with me, I’d say they feel safe opening up, that I’m direct but do so with respect and kindness. I encourage them to be true to their needs, a strong emphasis on boundary setting, and building relationships that are safe and resilient to stress.
I feel most confident working with adults who are in life transitions and trying to find their way. This could be a career change, relationship confusion, or life isn't turning out the way one would hope for. Additionally, I love working with those who have survived a variety of traumatic experiences and wish to process those memories in a safe way. I'm happy to work with anyone college-aged through older adults.
Trauma work has been a significant part of my counseling experience over the last 14 years, and I like to focus on processing through those experiences in a safe way using trauma informed techniques. I have training in EMDR and TF-CBT. I prefer using Narrative Therapy in my work as a way to rewrite a person’s trauma experience in a way that it is part of their experience and doesn’t have to fully define them.
I tend to view a clients experience through their history as it impacts their current life. I have a heavy emphasis on core relationships growing up that contributed to personal identity and self-confidence. I like to encourage a lot of self reflection and awareness to explore barriers to communication and boundary setting.
My goal is to focus on developing strengths and approaching yourself with grace. I assume that a client has gone throughout life figuring out ways to survive and want to come alongside to find the barriers that are preventing them from living in a way that aligns with their values.
