Sunita Bechan

LCSW25 years of experience

I’m a licensed psychotherapist with over 20 years of experience working with adults navigating trauma, anxiety, grief, and relationship challenges. I provide a collaborative, compassionate space where clients can gain clarity about patterns, strengthen coping skills, and heal from past experiences. My goal is to support meaningful emotional and relational growth while helping clients feel more grounded, empowered, connected, fulfilled, and at greater ease in their lives.

First session

In your first session, you can expect: - A warm, supportive space to share what brings you to therapy, in your own words - Time to talk about your current concerns, emotional struggles, and life context - Exploration of relevant background experiences, including relationships and past stressors - A chance to ask questions about therapy, my approach, and how we might work together - Discussion of your goals and what you hope to gain from therapy - An initial sense of whether we feel like a good therapeutic fit

Strengths

What stands out about my approach is the way I combine depth, compassion, and practical structure. I don’t rush clients into symptom management without understanding what’s happening underneath. I work in a trauma-informed, relational way, helping clients make sense of long-standing patterns, regulate their nervous systems, and develop healthier ways of relating to themselves and others. Clients often describe feeling deeply seen, understood, and supported, while also gaining clarity, emotional stability, and meaningful, lasting change.

Ideal clients

My ideal clients are adults ages 18 and up, including older adults, who feel stuck in patterns of anxiety, depression, emotional distress, or relationship difficulties, often rooted in earlier life experiences or unresolved trauma. Many struggle with people-pleasing, difficulty asserting needs, or chronic self-sacrifice, and have spent years coping, overfunctioning, or minimizing their needs. They are now seeking deeper understanding, emotional regulation, and more fulfilling connections. They are thoughtful, introspective, and ready to explore themselves with honesty and compassion, even if they feel anxious or uncertain about change.

Treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use CBT to help clients understand how thoughts, emotions, and behaviors interact. My approach is trauma-informed, collaborative, and flexible, focusing on identifying unhelpful patterns, building emotional regulation skills, and developing healthier ways of coping.

Psychodynamic

I use psychodynamic therapy to help clients explore how early experiences, unconscious patterns, and relational dynamics shape current emotions and behaviors. Together, we work to increase insight, process unresolved feelings, and understand recurring patterns that affect relationships, self-esteem, and emotional well-being.

Trauma-Informed Care

I provide trauma-informed care that centers trust, respect, and collaboration. I work at a pace guided by each client’s readiness, helping them build stability, understand trauma responses, and develop coping strategies that support healing and resilience.

Supportive

I use supportive therapy to provide emotional containment, validation, and practical guidance during times of stress, grief, and life transitions. I help clients strengthen coping skills, process difficult emotions, and build confidence and stability while navigating current challenges.

Attachment-based

I use attachment-based therapy to help clients understand how early relationships shape emotional needs, boundaries, and patterns across familial, romantic, social, and work relationships. Together, we explore relational dynamics, increase self-awareness, and develop healthier ways of connecting with others.
