Kayla Thompson

LPCC (she/her)1 year of experience

I was born and raised in Northeast Ohio, and I'm incredibly passionate about supporting people from all walks of life! As a proud child of Jamaican immigrants and a first-generation college graduate, I know firsthand what it means to navigate different worlds, break barriers, and build a path of your own. Because of my background, it is so important to me to offer a warm, culturally sensitive space where you feel seen, valued, and empowered to tackle life's challenges on your own terms. Outside of being a therapist, I’m also a former college track athlete! I ran at Northern Kentucky University and earned multiple All-Conference honors. That chapter of my life taught me so much about perseverance, resilience, and the power of setting goals—and those are the exact pieces of inspiration I love bringing into our sessions. It really helps me connect with clients on a deeper level, whether we're navigating heavy obstacles, managing daily stress, or working together to build up your self-confidence.

First session

In our first session, we will focus on building a comfortable, zero-judgment partnership. We’ll look at where you are today, discuss your unique story and background, and begin collaborating on a realistic, goal-oriented map to help you achieve personal growth at your own pace.

Strengths

I bring empathy, authenticity, and a supportive approach to my sessions. I focus on building strong connections with clients and creating a space where they feel comfortable, understood, and valued. I tailor treatment to each person's unique needs and use proven techniques to help clients build resilience, make progress, and create meaningful change.

Ideal clients

My ideal client is someone who is ready to explore challenges, gain insight, and work toward meaningful change. Whether they are navigating anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationship concerns, stress, or personal growth, I value working with individuals who are open to self-reflection and willing to engage in the therapeutic process. Together, we can build practical skills, strengthen resilience, and create goals that support lasting well-being.

Treatment methods

Eclectic

I take an eclectic, client-centered approach to therapy, meaning I draw from a variety of evidence-based treatment methods rather than relying on a single technique. I believe therapy should be tailored to each individual's unique needs, strengths, and goals. Depending on the client and their concerns, I may incorporate strategies focused on building insight, developing coping skills, changing unhelpful patterns, improving relationships, or increasing motivation for change. My goal is to meet clients where they are and adapt the therapeutic process to best support their growth and well-being

Person-centered (Rogerian)

I use a person-centered approach that focuses on your unique experiences, strengths, and goals.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use CBT to help clients identify and challenge unhelpful thoughts and behaviors, develop healthy coping skills, and create positive changes that support their goals and well-being.

Play Therapy

I use play-based techniques to help children express emotions, build coping skills, and work through challenges in a way that feels natural, engaging, and developmentally appropriate.

Couples Counseling

In couples therapy, I help partners improve communication, strengthen connection, navigate conflicts, and work toward a healthier, more satisfying relationship through collaboration and mutual understanding.
