AnnieKaye Ficarra
“Whoever you are, no matter how lonely” is my favorite Mary Oliver quote to describe the work I do. My name is Annie Kaye and I work with adults wanting freedom from ADHD, anxiety, addiction, relationship struggles, life transitions, and self esteem. My practice takes a grounded, interpersonal, and collaborative approach to therapy. I believe the continued commitment of showing up for yourself is the foundation of change, and I use my background to meet you wherever you're arriving from.
Strengths
My approach to each session will focus first and foremost on what you bring into the session to begin with. I open and hold space when someone is needing it, and am happy to dive in with my own curiosities when space is feeling lonely or overwhelming. I want to know how your week has been, get updates on the problem from last week, or sit in silence if that's what you're needing.
Ideal clients
I work with people who are wanting to find peace within ADHD, addictions, anxiety disorders, burnout, and life transitions. I work with people who struggle to meet the goals they have, need help pivoting after life happens, or who are completely unsure where to even start. I work with young and emerging adults as well as older adults of any gender.
Treatment methods
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
We all operate from a values system, and living in alignment with that system keeps our nervous system at ease, I believe. I work with people to identify their values and the ways they move towards them, and away from them. We take a slow pace towards self exploration, what factors impact your values, and what it looks like for you to make more aligned choices.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use CBT as one backbone of human behavior, acknowledging the relationship between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Becoming aware of how your thoughts and feelings show up, where you can impact them, and how to create a more settled relationship with them. There is no strict idea of success, and we work collaboratively on what you relate to versus what you don't.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
I use DBT to incorporate very in-the-moment skills. DBT offers skills that encourage mindfulness, present moment awareness, interpersonal success, and distress tolerance. Many of us already possess some of these skills without knowing it. This can look like figuring out how to ask for something at work, negotiate your needs, stay grounded when activated, or remain in the driver's seat when everything else seems to fall apart.
