New to Grow
Hi! I’m Macy! I’m a warm, down-to-earth therapist from East Tennessee who believes you don’t have to navigate life’s challenges alone. I strive to create a supportive space where you feel heard, accepted, and truly understood. Together, we’ll work at your pace to build coping skills, explore patterns, and process difficult experiences. As an EMDR-trained therapist, I help clients heal from trauma and painful experiences while supporting growth, self-discovery, and meaningful change.
In our first session, my goal is to help you feel comfortable, supported, and understood. We’ll start by getting to know each other and discussing what brought you to therapy, what you’ve been experiencing, and what you hope to work toward. I’ll ask questions about your background, current challenges, relationships, emotions, and any patterns that may be impacting your daily life. Together, we’ll explore your strengths, identify areas where you would like to see change, and begin creating goals that are meaningful to you. I believe therapy works best when it is a collaborative process, so your thoughts, preferences, and comfort level will always guide our work together. You can expect a judgment-free space where you can be yourself, share openly, and move at your own pace. Whether you are looking for support with anxiety, depression, trauma, emotional regulation, relationships, or navigating a major life transition, our first session is the beginning of building a therapeutic relationship focused on helping you heal, grow, and feel more empowered.
I bring warmth, authenticity, and a collaborative approach to each session. I believe that therapy should be a space where you feel accepted, understood, and empowered to be your true self. I strive to meet clients where they are while helping them build insight, develop coping skills, and create meaningful change. My approach combines evidence-based therapies, including CBT, DBT, ACT, and EMDR, to support clients in addressing anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, emotional challenges, and difficult life experiences. As an EMDR-trained therapist, I am passionate about helping clients process painful memories and experiences that may continue to impact their present lives. I also have a strong passion for supporting the LGBTQIA+ community and providing an affirming, inclusive environment where clients feel respected and valued. What makes my approach unique is the balance of clinical skills with genuine connection. I believe healing happens through both effective therapeutic techniques and a strong, trusting therapeutic relationship.
My ideal client is someone who is ready to better understand themselves, make meaningful changes, and create a life that feels more aligned with who they are. I enjoy working with adolescents and adults who are navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, emotional regulation challenges, relationship struggles, identity exploration, or major life transitions. Many of my clients come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure of where to begin. They may be seeking support in understanding their emotions, healing from past experiences, building healthier coping skills, or improving their relationships with themselves and others. I work especially well with clients who are open to self-reflection and willing to take small steps toward growth. I also have a passion for supporting LGBTQIA+ clients and providing an affirming space where individuals feel safe, respected, and free to be themselves. Whether we are using CBT, DBT, ACT, or EMDR, my goal is to help clients feel empowered, build resilience, and move toward the life they want.
Other specialties
I identify as
EMDR
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a therapy approach that helps people heal from difficult or distressing experiences that may still feel painful in the present. Sometimes, our brains have trouble fully processing overwhelming experiences, and those memories can continue to affect our emotions, thoughts, relationships, or how we see ourselves. In my practice, I use EMDR to help clients safely process these experiences, reduce emotional distress, and develop healthier beliefs about themselves. We work together to identify memories, feelings, or patterns that may be impacting your life today while building coping skills and a sense of safety throughout the process. EMDR is a collaborative approach, meaning you are always in control of the pace and direction of therapy. My goal is to provide a supportive environment where you can heal from the past, feel more present, and move forward with greater confidence and self-compassion.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) is an approach that helps clients better understand and manage intense emotions, improve relationships, and develop healthier ways of coping with life’s challenges. Many people struggle not because they are unwilling to change, but because they may not have been given the tools to navigate overwhelming emotions or difficult situations. In my practice, I use DBT skills to help clients build emotional regulation, increase self-awareness, improve communication, tolerate distress, and create more balance in their lives. We may focus on practical skills such as mindfulness, coping strategies, setting boundaries, managing strong emotions, and navigating relationships more effectively. DBT is a collaborative approach that recognizes both acceptance and growth are important. My goal is to help you better understand yourself, feel more in control of your emotions, and develop skills that support the life and relationships you want to build.
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) is an approach that helps clients create a more meaningful life by learning how to respond differently to difficult thoughts, emotions, and experiences. Instead of trying to eliminate uncomfortable feelings, ACT focuses on building acceptance, self-awareness, and the ability to take steps toward what truly matters to you. In my practice, I use ACT to help clients identify their values, understand patterns that may be keeping them stuck, and develop skills to move forward even when life feels challenging. We may work on increasing mindfulness, building self-compassion, creating healthier perspectives, and taking intentional actions that align with your goals. ACT is a collaborative approach that helps you learn to make room for difficult emotions while still choosing behaviors that support the life you want to create. My goal is to help you feel more connected to yourself, your values, and the things that matter most to you.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) is an evidence-based approach that focuses on the connection between our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. The way we think about ourselves, our experiences, and the world around us can impact how we feel and how we respond to challenges. In my practice, I use CBT to help clients identify unhelpful thought patterns, develop healthier perspectives, and build practical skills for managing anxiety, depression, stress, and other challenges. Together, we’ll explore how thoughts and behaviors may be affecting your emotions and work on creating positive changes through coping strategies, problem-solving, and new ways of responding. CBT is a collaborative and goal-focused approach where we work together to understand what you’re experiencing and develop tools that you can use outside of therapy. My goal is to help you feel more confident, empowered, and equipped to handle life’s challenges.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
Person-centered therapy is an approach based on the belief that you are the expert on your own life and that meaningful change happens through a strong, trusting therapeutic relationship. This approach focuses on creating a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where you feel comfortable being your authentic self. In my practice, I use a person-centered approach by meeting you where you are, listening with empathy, and working to understand your unique experiences, strengths, and goals. Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, we work together to identify what feels most important to you and create a path toward growth and healing that fits your needs. My goal is to provide a space where you feel heard, valued, and empowered as you explore challenges, build self-awareness, and move toward the life you want.
