I am a native of Brazil and have been in the Northeast for the last 17 years.
First session
The first session usually involves me asking some baseline questions to get to know you and understand your intentions and challenges you'd like to discuss. It's an initial assessment of your needs and preferences, and a chance for you to decide whether we're a good match!
Strengths
I am committed to being present and offering a judgment-free environment. I also use humor to connect. Life can be very serious and heavy; therapy can be fun and inviting while still holding a sacred space for healing.
Ideal clients
Clients can come as they are! It helps when clients think about their goals and feel comfortable giving feedback. I ask clients to let me know if they can't keep appointments. I understand emergencies happen, and we all have complex schedules and responsibilities, so communication is always appreciated. Clients also need to know that not every therapist will be a match; it needs to work for the client, and honesty is important.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Our thoughts do become our feelings. CBT helps you learn to control and practice different ways of thinking; it helps you identify patterns and connect them to how you feel.
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
Helps understand tolerating distress, and just observing reality without assigning meaning and navigating anxiety and negative thoughts using psychological flexibility and staying present while experiencing negative emotions.
Trauma-Informed Care
Trauma-informed care is the universal basis of honoring people's lived experiences and the impact of their trauma in all areas of life.
Culturally Sensitive Therapy
I'm personally experienced with the process of navigating different cultures, as an immigrant, I am always learning and opening space with curiosity to different types of cultures.
