Amy Booxbaum

LICSW (she/her)10 years of experience

Seeking support can be an anxiety provoking experience, and choosing to reach out—especially when it feels that way—is a genuine act of courage. Over the course of my career, I’ve worked in a variety of clinical settings, taught undergraduate and graduate students, and contributed to research. These experiences shape my collaborative, research informed approach to therapy. I believe that meaningful change grows out of a strong, trusting relationship between client and therapist. When you feel understood, respected, and truly supported, it creates the kind of space where real change can take root.

First session

In our first session, we will spend time talking about what brought you to therapy, your goals, and any questions or concerns you may have. I’ll ask some open-ended questions to get a sense of your experiences and what support might be most helpful specifically for you. We will also discuss what therapy can look like with me—how we might work together, what feels important to you to express your feelings without fear of judgement. By the end of the session, my hope is that you have a clearer sense of whether this feels like a good fit and what our work together could look like moving forward. If it doesn’t feel like the right fit, I will do my best to help connect you with another provider that might better align with your needs.

Strengths

One of my greatest strengths is my ability to create a space where clients feel genuinely respected, understood, and supported. I bring a calm, steady presence to the room, and I listen closely—not just to what is said, but to what feels important beneath the surface. Clients tell me they appreciate my thoughtful, collaborative style and the way I help them feel safe enough to explore difficult emotions. I also draw on my background across clinical work, teaching, and research, which allows me to integrate warmth with a grounded, research informed perspective. What stands out about my approach is the balance of compassion and skill building I bring to the work. I’m deeply relational—believing that meaningful change grows out of a strong, trusting connection—but I also draw on research supported methods to guide our work in a purposeful way. I don’t take a one size fits all approach; instead, I tailor therapy to each person’s needs, goals, and readiness. My aim is to help clients feel both supported and empowered, with a clear sense that we are working together toward meaningful, sustainable change.

Ideal clients

“I’m especially well-suited to work with individuals who are feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure of how to move forward. Many of my clients come to therapy navigating anxiety, life transitions, relationship challenges, or a sense of disconnection from themselves. Others are simply looking for a space where they can slow down, reflect, and feel genuinely understood. I work well with people who value a collaborative, research informed approach and who are open to exploring their inner world at a thoughtful, steady pace. My goal is to create a supportive, non-judgmental space where you can feel safe to be honest, curious, and engaged in your own goals and growth.

Treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use a flexible, integrative approach that draws from supportive therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT). My priority is to create a safe, supportive environment, and then work collaboratively to identify practical strategies to help clients build emotional well-being.
