New to Grow
Hello, My name is Kevin Crabtree. I'm a licensed Professional counselor in the state of GA. I wanted to be therapist from the time I saw Deanna Troi on Star Trek the Next Generation. I've been blessed with a clarity of vision and have deeply enjoyed my life's work, so often counseling doesn't feel like work to me, as much as me serving my highest purpose to help others. I began working with clients in 2006. Since then I have worked with a wide variety of clients from at-risk children and families, federal and state prisoners, and most recently military service members and families. Primarily I am solution focused and strength-based. I like to build a therapeutic alliance by removing the real or perceived stigma attached to receiving mental health services to help clients build or expand their support system, build (or expand) coping skills and manage symptoms. In many cases simply developing a vocabulary to talk about problems can be empowering in and off itself.
Hi Everyone, Our first session will typically involve me sharing a bit about my background, education and experience (as is relevant to your concerns). I also like to give folks a bit of a guided tour of the grow therapy platform so you can be comfortable with the format of things. Then we get into talking about what brings you here. I believe each of us are facing a particular challenge in a particular context, so I like to ask a lot of clarifying questions about what the situation is, what hurts, how long it has been going on, etc. Then as a steadily more clear picture emerges we start to build a healthy path forward together.
I've been told repeatedly that my personality is my biggest strength. I am basically a cartoon bear, who just seems to make people feel safe. My experience is that once clients (or for that matter human beings in general feel they won't be judged, then they can begin to tell their stories and heal. A growing area of mine is mens issues. Southern men seem to have an especially difficult time talking about feelings or mental health issues. Left unchecked this can put us at increased risk for all manner of negative health outcomes including self-harm substance abuse, relationship, career challenges and in some unfortunate cases suicide. The pandemic brought about an online telehealth revolution and made it easier for men to get help faster, cheaper and while feeling less awkward about it
Individuals facing -anxiety/ depressive symptoms -major life changes or challenges -grief/ loss -alcohol issues

I identify as
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Cognitive behavioral therapy involves a more mindful understanding of how our thoughts, emotions and behaviors influence one another and ultimately play a role in the way that we experience our reality.
Solution Focused Brief Treatment
I was a military therapist for over a decade. This approach tends to work very well for people who want to sort out a particular challenge then get back to life. It involves working fast but doing so to get back to the business of living.
