Tashana Smythe
Welcome! I am Dr. Tashana Smythe, a Board-Certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with multiple years of experience in healthcare. I am committed to providing compassionate, personalized, and patient-centered mental health care in a supportive, judgment-free environment. My goal is to help individuals feel heard, understood, and empowered as they work toward improved emotional well-being and a better quality of life.
First session
Your first session is a chance for us to get to know each other and talk openly about what brings you to care. We will discuss your current concerns, mental health history, goals, and what you would like to see improve. I will listen without judgment, answer your questions, and work with you to develop a personalized plan that fits your needs. My goal is for you to leave your first session feeling heard, understood, and confident about the next steps in your care.
Strengths
I bring compassion, patience, and a genuine desire to understand each person’s unique needs. I believe that building trust and listening without judgment are essential to effective mental health care. My approach is warm, collaborative, and individualized, allowing clients to feel comfortable sharing their concerns and working toward meaningful goals. I take the time to understand each person’s experiences and strengths so we can develop a plan that feels right for them. My goal is to help every client feel supported, valued, and empowered throughout their mental health journey.
Ideal clients
My ideal clients are adults ages 18 and older who are ready to take steps toward improving their mental health and overall well-being. They may be experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, mood changes, or life transitions, or simply need a safe space to talk and feel understood. I welcome individuals at different stages of their journey, whether they are seeking answers, learning new coping skills, or working toward lasting change. My goal is to meet each person with compassion, respect, and an open mind while working together to develop a personalized approach to care that supports their needs and goals.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients understand the connection between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Together, we identify unhelpful thought patterns and work on more balanced and realistic ways of thinking. I also use practical strategies that clients can apply in their everyday lives to manage stress, anxiety, depression, and other challenges. My approach is supportive and collaborative, with the goal of helping clients develop healthier coping skills and feel more confident in managing their mental health. Techniques may include thought challenging, cognitive reframing, thought records, grounding, problem-solving, and setting realistic goals. I focus on practical skills that clients can use in everyday life to manage stress, anxiety, depression, and other challenges.
