My name is Kristen Silva and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family therapist. I graduated from California State University, Bakersfield and have been practicing as a therapist for 6 years. I have worked with a variety of clients, ranging from client that are struggling with anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, trauma, relationship issues, etc. I also have worked with clients ranging from young adolescent to middle age adults. I have worked in public mental health and in private practice, which I feel has helped me be a better therapist as I have learned, and continue to learn, to be the best therapist I can be so that I can help my clients the best way possible.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In the first session, we will briefly go over introductions, review limits of confidentiality and how to file a grievance if needed at all during the process of our therapeutic relationship, what is bringing you in for therapy, your strengths, your support, past therapy hx, expectations for therapy. This will all help build a tailored treatment plan for following sessions.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Having worked with a variety of different clients for the past 6 years, I have developed an empathetic and psychoeducational approach to help clients understand their symptoms and develop insight, as well as staying focused on clients goals to best help lead to measurable progress.

My treatment methods

Psychoeducation

Psychoeducation offers the ability for clients to understand their symptoms and begin to start building an awareness of their symptoms not just in therapy, but outside of therapy.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

With solution focus the goal is to focus on your strengths. This doesn't take away from the pain that you experience and may be coming to therapy to focus on. Solution focus approach focuses on pulling your strengths to help you through difficult times.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Events in life produce a chain reaction of thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. The goal within CBT is to focus on changing and challenging thoughts to help reduce the intensity of the uncomfortable emotions, which a difference in behavioral responses would follow.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

Mindfulness practices have shown to help reduce stress and anxiety. Mindfulness can help with working on slowing down and focusing on the here and now.
