Feeling stuck and you don't know how to move forward? I provide trauma-informed therapy for adults across Virginia in a warm, nonjudgmental space where you can feel heard, improve psychological flexibility, and you may see adorable dogs! Using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and other evidence-based approaches, I'll help you notice your emotions, set boundaries, reconnect with your values, and navigate change with greater confidence. Together, we'll work toward creating a life that feels more balanced, meaningful, and fulfilling.
During our first session, this is all about you! We will spend time getting to know each other, discussing what brought you to therapy, and exploring how you want to live your best life and how we can get you there. I'll ask questions about your current concerns, personal history, and strengths to gain a better understanding of how your past experiences shapes your experiences today. You'll also have the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about my approach. Together, we'll begin creating a plan that feels supportive, practical, and aligned with your needs. Love homework and worksheets? Cool! If not... also cool!
Sometimes, coping skills are not enough. Together we will explore the root of why you might experience pain. I offer practical tools for emotional regulation, boundary setting, and strengthening relationships. My focus is on helping clients gain insight, build and create lasting changes that support emotional balance and overall well-being. I use a lot of metaphors connected to your experiences. My favorite metaphors are talking about my dog's favorite "rib bush" and "feeding your baby tiger."
I work best with adults navigating anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationship concerns, and the lasting effects of difficult experiences. Many of my clients feel overwhelmed by stress, uncertain about their next steps, or disconnected from the life they want to live. They are looking for a therapist who is compassionate, authentic, and willing to challenge them when needed. Together, we explore their values, build practical coping skills, strengthen resilience, and create meaningful, lasting change. I also welcome individuals from underserved communities, including LGBTQIA+, kink, polyamorous, and gaming communities, seeking a safe and affirming space for growth and healing. Pet lovers welcome as well! I often use humor in my sessions and love to use a metaphor.
I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help clients manage anxiety, depression, stress, and life transitions. ACT has made a world of difference in my client's lives. It's not the usual type of therapy. Its learning about your values and how to lean toward those values and what is important to you. You will learn how to make space for your emotions. The goal is not to make your anxiety disappear; the goal is to feel your anxiety while also living the life you want to live.
Are you a person who likes to set/achieve a goal? Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a supportive, nonjudgmental approach that helps you clarify your goals, explore your values, and strengthen your motivation for change. MI is a way to look at your goals. both short and long term and examine what might be getting in the way of getting there. We will look at your level of confidence and motivation to take the next steps towards your goals. Whether big or small, your goal is important to you for a reason! Let's see how we can get you there together.
I take a trauma-informed approach to therapy, recognizing how past experiences can shape current challenges. I provide a safe, compassionate space where you can explore your experiences without judgment, build effective coping skills, and develop greater resilience. Therapy moves at a pace that feels comfortable for you, with an emphasis on safety, empowerment, and lasting healing. I know speaking with a stranger can feel uncomfortable and scary. I try my best to meet the client where they are at. Dont want to answer a question? No Problem! We will continually assess together and check in how you are feeling in order to provide the most supportive space. I will hold the space you need for each session.
Got stinking thinking? Your thoughts keeping you trapped? Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) helps you recognize how your irrational thoughts can keep you stuck and in a cycle of pain. We will look at how valid each thought is for you and ways to challenge those thoughts. We will also look at how those thoughts impact your emotions and your behaviors. Some clients love a worksheet. If a CBT thought log is your jam, I got you.
