An idea client presents as someone who has an Open-mind to gaining new perspectives, goal oriented and determined to work! Someone who is willing to be vulnerable and understanding that results, change takes time as well as therapy is about life-style change and requires work. Clients who are dedicated even when challenges and barriers present to trust the process while having grace on themselves.
CBT is utilized in my therapeutic settings to help individuals/families understand the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and consequences, then develop healthier ways of responding such as: 1) Identifying the presenting problems(anxiety, depression, anger, trauma-related symptoms, ect) 2) Identify thoughts and cognitive patterns(self-doubt, thinking errors) 3) Connect thoughts to emotions and behaviors: Situation influences Thought(s) influences Emotion(s) influences Behavior(s) which influences Outcome(s) 4. Challenge and restructure unhelpful thoughts 5) Develop healthier replacement thoughts 6) Practice behavioral interventions(problem-solving, role-playing, positive self-talk, activity scheduling, ect) 7) Assign between session practices Benefits: increase self-awareness, improve emotional regulation, reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, identify and challenge negative thinking, improve problem-solving, increase self-esteem and self-efficacy, improve impulse control, improve communication, recognize triggers/early warning signs, increase motivation and behavioral change and develop healthier coping strategies.
