Hi! I'm Osvaldo Gotay Ruiz, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in Arizona. I received my Masters from the The Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico and have been practicing for approximately 10 years. I help individuals struggling with emotional problems, to become the best versions of themselves. I bring a compassionate and holistic approach to my practice, aiming to empower individuals and communities facing various challenges. With a strong commitment to social justice and advocacy, I strive to create meaningful connections and provide support tailored to the unique needs of each client. My expertise spans from crisis intervention and counseling to navigating complex social systems, ensuring that individuals receive the resources and guidance necessary to enhance their well-being and achieve their goals. By fostering a collaborative and empathetic environment, I aim to make a positive impact and contribute to the resilience and empowerment of those I serve.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions, then dive into the specific challenges you're facing. This will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I am particularly effective in supporting clients who value empathy, empathetic listening, and a non-judgmental approach in their therapeutic journey. My strengths lie in creating a safe and compassionate space where clients feel heard, understood, and respected. I excel in working with individuals who seek genuine connection and are open to exploring their experiences without fear of criticism. By fostering an environment of trust and empathy, I empower clients to navigate their challenges, promote self-discovery, and achieve meaningful growth in their personal and interpersonal lives.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I’ve been using CBT in my practice for the more than eight years. It’s helped many clients challenge reoccurring thoughts and manage their anxiety / depression. We’ll use CBT to recognize how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors influence each other. We’ll then use that knowledge to change your thinking patterns, which will help you lead a less anxious and stressed life.

Motivational Interviewing

I’ve been using Motivational interviewing for about 5 years. Motivational interviewing (MI) is a collaborative, goal-oriented counseling method that aims to help patients change their behavior by increasing their motivation. It's based on four guiding principles, or the acronym RULE: Resist the righting reflex, Understand the patient's own motivations, Listen with empathy, and Empower the patient.

Reality Therapy

I've been using reality therapy for approximately 10+ years. Unlike more conventional forms of therapy, reality therapy specifically focuses on an individual's current state and places less importance on past experiences or the presence of mental health conditions. Reality therapy emphasizes the impact of choice in your actions, which creates accountability for your behaviors.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I've been using Dialectic behavior Therapy for about 3 years, mostly with adolescents. Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is a type of talking therapy that helps people who experience intense emotions. It's based on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) but focuses more on the emotional and social aspects of life. DBT's goal is to help people understand and accept their feelings, learn skills to manage them, and make positive changes in their lives.
